Hey, Texans!

I'm headed for the Lone Star State tomorrow (I live in NE Okla.) to visit my mother, who lives near Kerrville.

Any good gun shops or gun shows I should know about in the area? I'll be there about a week.

In Dallas is Bachman Pawn and Gun on NW Hwy, in Austin is Heritage Firearms on the far nothside of town off 183. Those would be the ones that you are going by. Someone from SA might be able to mention others. If you go through OKC don't forget Outdoor America at 16th and MacArthur.

There will be a gun show this coming weekend (6/17-18) in Austin around I35 and 290. I35 south to 290; Hang left and stay on access road. Look for the signs.

Kerrville has two great gun shops.
1. Hill Country Arms ( they have 3 full time gunsmiths and one is from Ok )
2. Arrowhead Guns, large amounts of toys.

There's also McBride's on Lamar (north west of UT), and Tex Guns on Manchaca in South Austin. Tex Guns is just a tiny shop, but they are friendly and I always enjoy looking around. Theres also Reds indoor range in Oak Hill, far South Austin.

Agreed about Tex-Guns in Austin. I've gone by there a couple of times myself while in the area. The customers are treated like family. From what I've seen, they respond accordingly--a lot of the customers seem to be "regulars" who've been stopping by every week since the shop opened about 15 years ago. But, yes, the shop is small.

RHC,
I live about 20 miles north of Kerrville, and find that Arrowhead has the best selection, and Hill Country Arms has the best prices. They also order stuff at reasonable prices. There is a gunshow in Kerrville every other weekend, and in Fredericksburg the other weekends. My suggestion to you though is to drive out towards Hunt on Hwy 39, and go enjoy the cool waters of the Guadalupe river crossings. You can go to gunstores anywhere, and Kerrville isn't exactly a firearm mecca. So enjoy yourself in the river. You won't regret it.

Cooks in Pflugerville is nice. Has an indoor range.

Sad to say, there is nothing in San Antonio that merits a special trip if you did Austin.

You guys covered almost every good store in Austin.... lol I have bought from most of them. If you are going to be in Austin Sat or Sunday... head on out to Dripping Springs to the Hill country rifle range. We be shootin IDPA there this weekend.

At Cooks... Say Hi to JT... At McBrides... tell Marc Bubba sent ya. :D (But the better prices will be at the Heritage table at the gun show.... ;) Or if Docs decides to show up at this show... their prices are REALLY good.)

Bubba - I hear some of the stages this month may have names like "clothesline", "alley" and "stuck."

May be interesting . . .

It WILL be interesting .... IF... a certain spouse... of a certain Match Director..... GETS FINISHED WITH MY NEW COLT in time for Sunday's squad!!!! :D :D :D Just kidding Marc... Really.. 6 weeks is not too long to wait for that many modifications... I was just funnin.. REALLY! ;)

If you've got the time and the inclination for a little side trip in DFW on your way in or out, cut over on 380 E to McKinney and check out the Collin County Gun Range. It's a great outdoor range that's in peril of being shutdown by the McKinney Stinkocrats. Folks are real friendly there.

If you come to San Antonio, Dury's on East Southcross is a great shop.

M1A1John, thanks for the info. I did stop by Arrowhead - great selection and friendly staff.

KJM - Thanks! You're absolutely right.
My mom lives on the Guadalupe, so have no fear, I definitely spent some time in it. You shouldn't imagine I come from a desert, though, just because I'm from Oklahoma. I live near a spring-fed river and also near Grand Lake.

If you are going to be here a while, please drive over to Fredricsburg and see the Nimitz and Pacfic Museams(sp) they are OUTSTANDING

As for firearms fist full weekend of each month there is a show here in S.A. out by the airport (Broadway @ Loop 410)
