Hey NRA..heres a tip.. showcase the positive of firearms ownership

Just recently a woman killed a man who had broken into her home and was climbing the stairs towards her and her baby (or child). She fired in self defense and probably saved her life.

The NRA should be showcasing and having panels where people talk about how firearms saved their lives. Non-gun owners need to realize the life saving potential of any type of firearms.

Instead we get these gun-lovers talking about "fun" "cool" and "plinking", when 20 kids were just killed. Are you trying to tell me that there isn't 1 gun lover with an education higher then that of a GED who can wisely speak about the merits of firearms ownership?

Instead..the NRA spends time making lame comments that only scare non-gun owners. Since when does a CEO know how to run any type of business?

EXAMPLE:

When we explained the use of the atomic bomb to the American people..

We did not say.. oh man its cool. Bright flash.. melting skin! It even leaves a shadow of yourself when the heat hits you! Its so hot its awesome!

No..we said..it would potentially save the lives of millions of US troops and Japanese suvillians.

The NRA already shows positive examples of firearms use, it's a column called "The Armed Citizen" and its near the front of every issue of American Rifleman. Beyond that, the NRA needs to be able to disseminate their message throughout the rest of the media, and most in the media aren't interested in running stories of people defending themselves.

A concealed handgun license keeps me out of trouble. I don't speed and follow all traffic laws. I stay out of bars and liquor stores. I'm alert to my surroundings. I even avoid petty confrontations. Lol.

It has some inconveniences and can be a burden to the mind, especially in times like these.

American Rifleman? How many gun-owners actually subscribe to that magazine?

This is a perfect example of being out of touch with reality. If the NRA continues like the example you just stated..we might as well start throwing our firearms into volcanos.

So what exactly would you propose they do? How do you propose they make the panels you suggest known to the American people at large? The media is famous for doing three things with news that doesn't fit their agenda: don't report on it at all, bury it somewhere where hardly anyone will see it (bottom corner of page 13 in the newspaper or 3 a.m. on TV), or selectively edit out bits and pieces so that it fits their agenda. How, exactly, do you propose the NRA overcome this?

Accept the sitdowns with the media with conditions. You bring 5 people..We bring 5 people.

How to engage men who aren't gun owners. Reach them through magazines like Maxim, GQ, Playboy etc..

Lol American Rifle.. why not just put a article in "Stamps Today". That'll reach the masses.

Then there's Facebook, Twitter, etc etc..

The problem with the NRA.. to many old people running it who are out of touch with today's youth.

I can easily explain to 5 women on my friends list the difference between a semi and a auto in only a few texts. AND I don't have millions of dollars at my disposal to have too. Why can't the NRA?

Who moderates? The media. Who controls what goes out on the air? The media. Yeah, that will work.

Reach them through magazines like Maxim, GQ, Playboy etc

Are they going to publish pro gun information?

Facebook, Twitter

NRA is on Facebook, do you follow them? I'd assume they are on twitter (yep, they are) but as I am not I couldn't tell you for sure. If people don't follow NRA on twitter or FB what difference does it make.

Your last point is KEY! Since the media is not going to disseminate any positive use of guns it falls on US to do it. The NRA gives us the information. Spread it. Follow NRA on Facebook (and twitter) and share it with your friends. I may join twitter for this reason alone.

I guess many gun owners suffer from the same problem as the rest of America. They assume someone else will do "it".

Good points all.. NM about my common sense post.

lets change the subject to something more important that gun owners can really get into.. at the Sandy Hook shooting..did he his assault rifle lower have an ambi or standard lower?

OK, so what happens if the media doesn't accept those conditions? Is it worse to have one pro-gun voice in a panel, or none at all?

And how do you get said magazines to print your information? What about women, do you think that Cosomopolitan or Good Housekeeping are going to run positive stories about the NRA?

Then there's Facebook, Twitter, etc etc..

They're already there.

The problem with the NRA.. to many old people running it who are out of touch with today's youth.

You do realize that the NRA is run by a board elected by the members right? If today's youth doesn't want an NRA run by "out of touch old people" then they can join and vote in people who better serve their interests.

I can easily explain to 5 women on my friends list the difference between a semi and a auto in only a few texts. AND I don't have millions of dollars at my disposal to have too. Why can't the NRA?

5 people is one thing, but 50 million people is another. Sending text messages isn't going to get the message to nearly enough people nearly fast enough. Media like TV and magazines cost money.

No matter how well the NRA present gun ownership in a positive light they will never be able to compete with the half trillion dollar media industry that portrays gun ownership in a negative, farcical or slanderous light. Only truth will work to demonstrate the persistent lies.
