Welcome. I have a 66 with a 6" barrel that's as good as my Dan Wesson no matter which barrel I put on it or the GP100. Nice revolver. I hear bad things about Taurus on this list but have never encountered any with the ones I have. Of course I hear bad things about all the others too. The bottom line is if your happy with your new revovler and it shoots good for you then that's all that matters.

To make it cheaper they cut corners so cosmetically it isn't as pretty but if you shoot specials or +P specials in it you won't be bothered by recoil a bit and the gun should shoot better than you can hold. If you don't mind recoil full load .357's will make you pay attention. Enjoy it and shoot the snot out of it. Most of the problems they had have long since been resolved. Even S&W has a stinker coming off the line once in awhile so don't worry to much about the nay sayers.

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your new gun. Unfortunately the mere mention of Taurus on this forum will evoke many negative threads, and at times insults from some. Please don't judge TFL by what may be said in future posts on your thread.
I only have one Taurus at this time, a Judge Public Defender Poly which I have found to be a great firearm. reliable, and accurate, and a whole lot of fun to shoot.

Thanx for the welcomes and I'm surprised I didn't get beat up too bad for getting Taurus lol but I guess we can all agree revolvers are awesome firearms and thanx again what do 66 owners think of the matte stainless finish

Welcome.

If you truely have Revolver Tooth Marks where the Bug has bitten you, you will have some Smith & Wesson's, and Rugers shortly.

My lone 66 S&W is a 2-1/2" 66 No Dash made in early 1977. I put a set of current production S&W Checkered Rose Wood Combat grips on it. I am packing it around in a Lobo Enhanced Pancake with Optional Inner Hammer Shield. By Summer Snake Season I will probably find a Thumb Break beater holster for woods carry for it.

You will probably need a 22 also. Better check out a Ruger SP101 with a 4.2 Inch barrel. A nice 8 shooter in Stainless Steel.

You live in North Florida, that should be a good Hog Hunting area. That means a Super RedHawk should be on your shopping list also. If you reload a 480 Ruger will fix you up in fine shape. If you buy ammo a 44 Magnum would be a better choice. Also will work great for Deer.

Florida has concealed carry. That should be a good reason for a S&W 442 Pro, or an LCR 38 or 357 for everyday carry. Then you will also need an LCR 22 for economical practice.

Then you will need to adopt all the old Smith & Wesson revolvers that show up at the Pawn Shop due to all that HOPE & CHANGE we are forced to tolerate.

One day you will wake up and realize, Hay I am a Revolver Guy.

I have a Taurus Mdl 66 stainless steel. It shoots well and is very accurate. It seems to be a copy of the S&W - looks almost identical. Mine was made circa 1980. Very well finished...

Jonnie304:

Welcome aboard. Taurus has a bad, but undeserved reputation, that at times is posted on the TFL. When I retired from the Marine Corps I sold guns for twenty years. My experience is that no more Taurus guns were returned for repair than other prestigious firearms manufactures. On the rare occasion that a repair was required, the repair was professionally completed in a timely fashon. No I don't own a Taurus, I shoot five Smith & Wesson revolvers, but I must give credit where credit is due.

Again welcome to TFL. You will find the people here most helpful and most entertaining to flip through and read the posts. I have a semi auto taurus that i think is a great litlle pistol for its purpose provided you use the ammo it likes. Taurus guns are like those girls we knew in school. you know the kind that there wasnt a whole lot wrong with but they had dirty reputations and you just didnt want to admit to what you did with em.

Congrats on the gun and welcome to TFL! I have a Taurus 650 that's still going strong after over five years of ownership. I also bought an 85UL as a gift for somebody else, and it was also flawless.

Welcome to the forum.

Taurus has a history of bad QC so if you got one that works, it will probably remain working for awhile.

Welcome

jonney304,

Welcome to what I consider one of the best sources for "real" information on firearms currently available. The people here have a varied, but vast knowledge of the subjects, and often varying opinions, but in the end we all strive to better our own knowledge, or at least attempt to supply informed input to those who ask questions.

Keep asking questions, and enjoy the forums!
