What gives? There was some EXCELLENT discussion going on in there, and you called in "pointless"?

Since no explanation was given as to why it was closed besides that it was "pointless" (if it was pointless, it would not have been generating the posts that it did), we can continue the discussion on another board for those that are interested.
So anyways Mike... 
Sure, allow vacation travel. An influx of well-to-do U.S. citizens would be the last thing Castro wants, as his subjects would suddenly see another way of life up close and personal. Also, the infusion of dollars at the local level? No such thing--in a communist society it all goes to the head man. Keeping it for one's self is AGAINST THE LAW!
The raid violated constitutional rights to personal freedom, and interfered with the legal process guaranteed to U.S. citizens and immigrants who apply for asylum. There is no specified age limit for application, by the way, and Cubans have special privileges for filing.
Anyway, Coinneach is right about the thread veer. Just remember, Janet Reno wants us to be preoccupied with the issue of the boy's eventual destiny while she takes away our freedoms with her thugs. Anyone else want to play into her hands?

I'm too used to the old Compuserve Firearms Forum. Over there thread veer was a sacred way of life, our "peculiar institution," to borrow a phrase.

As for Castro and dollars, I used the term dollars as a general conceptual for money. The key is money, and LOTS of money that the Americans would infuse into the economy. Whether it's dollars or pesos, isn't the point. The point is that Americans would represent an enormous boost to the local economy. Per capia annual income is, at very best, a few thousand dollars a year.

So much for a "General Discussion" forum. It seems that the moderators here sometimes have too much time on their hands. I'ver never seen any board lock out so many threads. That's the main reason that I don't frequent these boards anymore.

Fellas - PLEASE. Coinneach made the call to close a thread. Thats his choice. He has given 3 reasons for doing so - each valid.
Any thread at or even near 100K is fair game for closure... If you interested in continuing that threads discussion - you are welcome to start a Part 2.
This thread however sticks in my craw.
It seems some folks do not appreciate the work the staff does here at TFL... effort that has made TFL the BEST. Period.
I am sure Weapons Forum in its embrionic stages wont mind your bandwidth. You may continue THIS thread at another forum - because I will not tolerate this here.
