What do you think of the S&W 610 w/4" barrel? How's the velocity loss with the shorter barrel? I like the option of 10mm for camping and .40 s&w for HD but am worried that the short barrel will rob the 10mm of some of it's power. By the way, I live in CA so I don't need to worry about grizzly's.

You'll lose a nice chunk of velocity depending on the load, figure 100 ft/sec as a ballpark figure. Still way ahead of .40 S&W, especially with heavier bullets. And you can load it "long" for revolver-only use or ream the chambers for 10mm Magnum.

I'm thinking "finally, the perfect length......"

4" is just right.
I really wish I could buy one.

Welcome to TFL JasonB!

When you talk about "velocity loss" what gun are you comparing the S&W- 610, 4 inch barrel to?

6.5" model

Found a bargain priced 6.5" model 610 recently at a local gun shop. Am I a happy new 610 owner!!! This pistol shoots incredible! Kick is very mild and it flawlessly placed 10mm and 40S&W rounds at point of aim. Might have to raid the piggy bank for a 4" model too.
