Hugh Hewitt bills himself as a "center-right" talk radio host. He doesn't like "extreme left or extreme right." He was in the Legal Counsel Office for Ronald Reagan.
Anyway, although (or perhaps because) he rarely talks about guns, I figured when the issue was too difficult for him to avoid on his radio show, he would turn out to be a squish.
The recent terrorist attack on the Russian elementary school was just such an issue.
Below, please read the e-mail I sent to him so that you might get a gist of what he said. I hope you can find the time to write to him, even send him some factoids or so.
Thanks,
Rick

Dear Mr. Hewitt,
I'm afraid I can't say that I'm shocked that you would say that armed citizens (be the Americans or Russians) can't be trusted to protect themselves against terrorist attack.
You said, that people should "...wait for the professionals..."
Were the students at Columbine better off as the SWAT team hid behind fire trucks until the two thugs ended their own lives? Tell that to the woman with the knife to here throat. Wouldn't it be better if she had a pistol in her hand? Wouldn't it be better to have a fighting chance? Doesn't that show respect for Human dignity to have the means of self defense?
You also said, [close paraphrase] "...it would just make it worse..."
Isn't that what Sarah Brady said when the bill to arm airline pilots was introduced? How, exactly would the WTC attacks been made worse? Since the terrorists blew the bombs without provocation, how would it have been made worse?
You also said there are some places where guns don't belong. Where are those places exactly? Perhaps you mean schools are places where guns shouldn't be. Do you think terrorists would obey a "No Weapons" sign? Are the terrorists glad that people are unarmed in those places? You bet. They are thankful for weak people and those, like you, who would keep them weak. You've created a safe working environment for Islamo-Fascists. OSHA for Terrorists. Congrats.
Do you think it wrong that Israel armed teachers, parents, and some students after attacks on schools 30 years ago? Attacks on schools fell precipitously as a result.
You doubted the caller from Arizona who had personally trained 1,100 students for the concealed carry program. You mocked him by saying that he's only trained 1,100 out of 83-million gun owners. Got news for ya, Hugh. Arizona has 67,000 CCW permits. Florida has 300,000. Pennsylvania has 500,000, etc, etc. Problem is, none of them can carry into schools and the TERRORISTS know it.
If you're going to get serious about protecting life, you'd better be willing to come off your Con-Law Elitist Ivory Tower and get down here with the common man who, unlike the well-paid SWAT team members have real incentive to protect themselves. As well, they have real opportunity to do so, since it is the victim who is the first person at the scene of a crime.
