Oh, man! If only most of the audience were thinking at full capacity at this time of morning, we'd have a shot. Heston actually did pretty well. I guess the key is to have him debate only fluffheaded network anchors . . . . .
1. Bringing up the time Clinton said that a high rate of gun violence in the U.S. is due to the existence of the NRA. This should have been done sometime last week. Warmed my heart to see it. The anchor tried to brush it aside but the message was there, and her complete ignoring of it spoke volumes.
2. I laughed my ass off when the anchor started arguing with Heston.
H--"Well, let's forget the rhetoric for a minute, because words won't hurt anyone. What hurts people is people like H. Rap Brown killing cops."
A--"But words do hurt people because words keep a compromise from happening . . ."
She then tried to cover by saying "and some people have said" that a compromise is necessary, but it was obvious that she had made her mind up long ago and was simply arguing with her guest. Dingus. I guess the really subtle ones all got to work prime time.
And the crowning stupidity, which literally made me laugh, this quote:
A--"Are you willing to compromise with the President on the issue of background checks?"
H--"We have said before that we think the bill would pass with or without our support with the 24-hour background check--"
A--"But the President wants 72 hours!"
She seemed genuinely offended, as if Heston were not offering a compromise. Does she honestly believe that giving Clinton everything he wants in return for nothing is a compromise? This is the most graphic example of that mindset I've seen yet.
