Herters U-9 .223

Can anyone give me the history of this gun ? I found one for auction at www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?ItemNum=1602925 . All I can tell so far is that it is "vintage" and made in England. What would you think of this as a first "real" rifle ? Looks pretty snazzy to me. Can't tell how she runs though

I have a Herter's U9 in 243. My dad bought the bbl action, ohhh my golly back in the late 60's. It is a fine rifle, and after my dad died, he built a stock out of cedar, I re-stocked it with a Richards Micro fit stock. Beautiful gun and you don't hear, least I don't, much about them any more.
