Greetings all from Cave Country...
I've been pondering for some time of adding a .22 mag. to my gunsafe. I know that the Ruger Single Six.single sever is king of the convertables, but keep seeing "Heratige arms" revolvers in various gun stores. Has anyone had any expirencwe with this brand.. Thanx in advance

I had one for a while. No Ruger of course, but then it cost half, or even a third of what a Ruger does. I sold it because it had a 6 1/2 inch barrel and I never could warm up to a barrel that long. But it shot just fine. I never used the magnum cylinder, but then I've never had any use for the 22 magnum at all.

Nothing at all wrong with the gun though I didn't think. I might buy another one someday.

I have Rugers, Smiths, Colts, Sigs, etc. so am familiar with the quality of many brands. I have a vintage Ruger Super Bearcat that my wife likes to shoot so I consider it her gun now. I wanted a "kick around" 22 revolver for here on the farm so I purchased a Heritage Rough Rider with a 4 3/4" barrel - I only got the regular 22 cylinder as I also have no real use for a 22 Mag for what I needed it for.

As stated, it's not a Ruger but I consider the RR to be a great value for the money. Mine has shot great right out of the box and does what it's supposed to. I'm careful with my handguns but if it gets scratched, bumped, etc. it's not going to matter - it will still function just fine. A lot of folks don't like the flip down safety on them - to me, it's not an issue. I was brought up on SA revolvers and for me, I just leave the hammer on an empty cylinder and carry it that way. It really isn't an issue at all - it's there to use if you want to.

I'd have no problem buying another one. From posts I've seen, some fellows like the longer barrels models to hut squirrels with. I don't hunt anymore but it would be a great squirrel/rabbit pistol. Mine has been a very good experience.

Another good (cheaper) revolver SA is the one made in Germany by Weihrauch . These are now sold as EAA Bounty Hunter. They are big and strong and heavy like Rugers (unlike Colt copies). Actually they are slightly bigger and heavier than the Rugers. They also have a better fit and finish than Rugers. And cost less.

Nothing is a rugged as a Ruger, nor will last as long, but I think the Bounty Hunters are the next best gun that does not cost way more than a Ruger (the BH actually costs much less).

I have a .22LR / .22 Mag EAA Bounty Hunter, much cheaper than the Ruger, a fabulous firearm from the plant in Bavaria !

They are also made in large centerfire (even .44 mag) and are fabulous quality for under $400 for a .44 mag, or .357, .45LC.

I have a 6 1/2 barreled Rough Rider with both cylinders. I haven't had any mechanical problems with it. The finish of course is not like a Ruger, or any other gun costing a couple times or more what the RR does. It is very accurate, at least to 25 yards because that's what I limit myself to with an open sighted rimfire.
The one small problem I had was it was hitting several inches off POA. Not recommended by Heritage, but a quick tweet with a pliers on the front sight in "old West" style, and it is dead on now.
I'm happy enough with it that I am strongly considering a shorter barreled model with the bird head grip.

They are a good brand. Like everyone else said, its no Ruger but for the money, they are really hard to beat. I've had mine almost 15 years now and carry every deer season in case I see a snake. Mine has both mag and LR cylinders but I mainly shoot LR through it. Its reasonably accurate for what it is with no adjustable sights.

I've had a few and liked them, they managed to get traded off to fund other gun purchases but would not mind having another some day. My son in law has one and uses the mag cylinder for a trail gun when he's out roaming around. the mag cylinder shoots danged goo too.

I've got one. Didn't want to pay the premium for the Ruger. Like others, I' haven't used the magnum cylinder yet. Not sure I like the safety.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I bought it because I had ~500 rounds of WWB that would not cycle in my colt/umarex/walter 1911 - 22. Only time I've bought a gun because I had ammo:o

As a general rule, the spent shell casing will stick in one cylinder each group. Not always the same one. It's a cheap gun and I use it to fire cheap ammo.

It's a cheap gun and I use it to fire cheap ammo.

Notice on the target pictured in my earlier post. The much maligned RGB was the most accurate!

Not sure I like the safety.
Forgot to mention that is my biggest complaint, and a completely useless, unnecessary, and annoying P.I.T.A!

Get what you pay for

I don't like them and am offended at the quality of the product. That said: The overall opinion from those that own/shoot them is generally positive. If you can't afford Ruger then I'd say that you will probably be pleased with one.

Mine has both cylinders with the 6 1/2" barrel. Accurate, dependable and affordable. The magnums are painfully loud for a little gun.

I like the Heritage.

I am an old poot retired on a fixed disability income so I have to watch my gun dollars close. I have the short barrel model with birdshead grips. Very satisfied with it for the money. I am just happy there are affordable "cheap" guns to buy that are pretty good quality. Haven't figured out the picture posting yet so please just punch on the link.

My brother has a Heritage Arms 22lr/22mag with a 6.5" bbl and I have a Ruger Single Six with a 9.5" bbl. I've shot his Heritage and it does shoot pretty well though I can't stand the stupid safety, it just does not belong on a revolver!
Putting my distaste of the safety aside it it a decent shooter for the price so if your budget won't allow you to buy a Ruger you have no excuse not to own something to shoot.
My Ruger is a gun that will outlast me and probably will be handed down to my grandchildren. Heritage Arms are aren't in the same league but my brother likes his and that is the most important thing really.

I have a RR with both cylinders. GREAT little plinker with the LR cyl and a good side arm with the mag cyl. I enjoy this revolver! I taught my 12 year old how to shoot a wheel gun with mine. I will give it to him someday ;)

Very reliable, safe and accurate.
