Heritage.45 long colt

Hi all, I have a couple questions on the heritage 45 long colt.
1) how do you disassemble the ejection rod and spring? I can't seem to get the thumb lever off the end of the ejection rod in order to take it out.
2) how do you take the hand grips off when there are no grip screws?
I'm usually pretty good at taking guns apart, but this one has got me stumped. When it comes to a .45acp, I can take it all the down to the frame. Can anyone help with my two questions? Thanks in advance.

There are others way more knowledgeable about single actions than me, but if my memory serves me right,

on most SA's, there should be a screw at the end of the ejection housing tube screwed into the barrel and when you undo that screw, you can take the entire ejection unit off and disassemble. At lease that's how it was for several SA's I've worked on.

The grips are one piece or sometimes two piece with a glued spacer. You take off the back strap from the frame to remove the grips.
Two screws at the top, and one at the bottom connecting the backstrap to the front strap which holds the main spring in place.

Of the 3 grip securing screws HighValleyRanch speaks of, two are on either side of the bottom of the hammer as pictured below. Only the right screw is visible in this picture. Granted this is not a Heritage, but it should be the same.

Getting the grip back on sometimes requires getting each of the 3 screws started a bit in each hole before tightening them all down, otherwise the holes don't line up well.

Thanks guys. I did take the small screw out of the bottom end of the ejection tube but I still can't get the ejection rod and spring out. It's the thumb lever that is preventing me from getting it out. How does that thumb lever come off the end of the ejection rod?

The ejector button does not come off the rod, unless it's broken. There's little reason to remove the housing but you do so by removing the screw at the muzzle end and then carefully pulling the housing out of the frame.

Why do you need to remove the grips? This is typically not done on a single action unless necessary. It ain't a Glock or AR, you don't take the whole thing apart every time you shoot it. I imagine it has one piece grips and you will have to remove the backstrap to remove the grips. Be sure to use a set of driver bits fitted to the SAA or you'll booger up the screw heads.

After removing the ejecdtor housing screw, gently lift the ejector assembly away from the barrel while sliding it forward (toward the muzzle)from the frame. There may have been a little adhesive to help hold it in place.

Not too sure about the Heritage, but there may be a stud on the barrel that the screw goes into. If so, lift the ejector housing clear of this.
