Hello Everyone,

I purchased my Heritage .22lr/.22WMR Johnny Boy from Buds Gun Shop on February 24, 2014. I have shot approx 300-500 rounds through the revolver in approx three months. All of the ammo I shot from the firearm was Federal .22lr 36gr copper plated. After cleaning my revolver from the last range trip i discovered what looks to be a crack in the frame of the firearm. I called Heritage support and they were pretty pointless. They had me send them an email with a picture of the damage and it has now been 5 days with no reply. Please look over the pictures posted in this thread. If everyone thinks this is indeed a crack then I will contact them again on Monday. I don't want to take any chances, I have seen too many videos of firearms exploding. Thanks for the help and suggestions PLEASE CLICK THE LINK SHOWN BELOW TO VIEW THE PICTURE. Sorry about the resolution this is the best picture I could get of something so small.

I have a Heritage Rough Rider which is much the same gun barring cosmetic differences. There's no such mark or crack in mine, but I don't think .22LR ammo packs enough punch to cause a crack in a metal frame, and the position of the 'crack' makes no sense to me.

It seems more likely to me that that is a moulding mark and has always been there. Can you confirm if this is the first time you've noticed it?

I'd lean towards that being a mold line as well.

Those aren't great .22 SA's- certainly not in the class of say, a Ruger Single Six- that said there's a ton of them out there and I rarely ever saw them come in for any work other than "My ejector rod screw is missing" or similar.

What's my motto? Worry less-shoot more.

That looks like a molding seam to me or just a flaw in the finish. Feel it. If it's a molding mark, it could feel slightly raised above the surface.

A crack in metal usually looks like a very thin dark line, not a bright streak.

Hello Oruglock,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, this is the first time I have noticed the mark on the frame. I discovered this while cleaning the gun for the third time. I do not believe this mark was there during my second or first cleaning because I look over my guns very carefully.

A buddy back in florida had one of those for 2 years as a truck gun. used to finish caught hogs or snakes only. Not a fun gun, not shoot a alot. Shot only magnums in it and one day a couple years after buying it that pot metal frame broke. Bottom front of frame top strap at the rear. Just snapped off with the last shot . He know owns a ruger SA.

Darn, you made me go and look at mine. It does not have the casting seam but I don't think I would have ever noticed it if it did because of where it is located. I suspect nc-oldfart's friend had something else going on if the "pot metal" broke. Last I heard, the frame is aluminum. I don't think a 22 magnum would have enough punch to break the frame.

Then it is was junk aluminum , maybe a bad casting but fatigued from only a few hundred magnums. It lived its life mainly in the center console of his truck to be pulled out as needed. Was not beat up or damaged . Junk is junk . What can you expect for a 200 dollar revolver .
