At the risk of usurping this forum in my first week here:

Here is the other $200 Ruger Blackhawk I bought, did nothing to it other than remove the conversion unit, replace the aluminum grip frame with steel, and add a steel ejector rod housing.

I had to do a little fitting on the grip frame, an Old Army grip frame. Here in my workshop:

It has become one of my favorite small bore guns.

Yes, .357 Magnum it is. Both guns were .357s, which in the Three Screw days were built on the medium frame.

The meduim frame approximates the Colt SAA in size and is so desirable today as a platform for conversions. It was more than adequate for the .357 Magnum, and for conversions to various .38-40, .44-40, and similar to "old" cartridges.

Three screws...you gotta love um. Have never forgiven Ruger for his bastardization of the Colt SSA with his pins and transfer bars. He should have left well enough alone. I pine for the old three screws I had, and had to sell to finance Grad school.
Amoung those I had, was an early .44 Magnum Blackhawk (three screws, fluted cyclinder).

The drill press vise is bolted to a 2 x 12 with 1/2" bolts, heads counterbored on the back side. There is another hole to allow the vise to be bolted longways on the 2 x 12. I clamp the 2 x 12 to my bench where ever most convenient.

This allows me to place my gun in just about any position.

Bob,

You have quite a nice collection of Rugers, I've enjoyed reading your threads. Do any of those fine revolvers you've posted lately serve carry duty? If so, which ones and in what?
By the way, welcome to the forum.

Indded there is one that is my "American Express" gun, never leave home without it. Its the ex-.357 Magnum three screw Blackhawk, now a .44 Special:

This is a Bob Mernickle PS-6SA holster.

The frame was case colored by Doug Turnbull, rest of gun blued. All work by Dave Clements. Gun has steel grip frame (For an Old Army) and steel ejector housing with cam cut ans crescent ejector rod head.

Grips are walnut by CaryC.

This is it unholstered:
