I've had something on my mind for a while. Guess I may as well just spit it out and be done with it:
I'm more than a little concerned by the number of posts I see here that in so many words say that the tide has turned against us and that gun registration and confiscation is inevitable. That sort of defeatist attitude saddens me and makes me wonder if I'm not indeed wasting my time by sending letters, emails, making phone calls, etc in an effort to fight for our cause.
I agree 100% that the deck is stacked against us now, but what do you expect when you battle anti gun people who are devoid of principles, honor, or scruples? We have to be more positive, Guys and Gals.
This is PRECISELY when we need to quit screwing around and get tough. . . . and fight back. It's getting serious now. This is our last chance.
These wackos were little more than noisy nuisances when they started their campaign against our second amendment rights. We laughed and ignored them. That encouraged the tree huggers who climbed onto the band wagon. We laughed again, but not so loudly as before.
Life was still good then. We were buying $18 1911A1's and $25 M1 Carbines from DCM and kids' dads would seldom bother to take the Winchester from the rack in the back window of the pickup before Junior took the truck to town. Politicians were still somewhat respected and opening day of deer season was a legal excuse to miss school.
Then some wacko shot a Kennedy. . . . . and then another.
The anti gun crowd used these and other unfortunate events such as Dr King's assassination to successfully generate enough public hysteria to coerce Congress into protecting us from ourselves with the 1968 Gun Control Act. We didn't laugh this time. The situation hasn't improved since. It has steadily deteriorated.
We all sat around on our ever-widening behinds and said next to nothing while Sarah, Rosie, Jane, and a cast of thousands ran around shrieking their warnings and calling for bans of the evil instruments called guns. It's working. The politicians have already sold us out. The parasites are caving in to the anti's to shut them up. We are allowing them to sway public opinion against us.
We need to become as vocal as they are.
We put a lot of money into the NRA, GOA, and other organizations who have pledged to fight for us and then we sat back and did nothing. We need to continue to support these organizations, but they will fail if we don't personally get involved in the fight. They can't do it alone. WE are the NRA. WE are the GOA. WE have to get involved.
We can still turn it around, but it's going to take a little effort on EVERYONE"S part. We have power. AWESOME POWER!
There are millions of gun owners in this country. Millions of people. . .adult people. . . .with money. . . . big money. . . .millions. . . . billions.
Of course it's big money. After all, we're the ones who support the anti gun movement through our taxes and our retail purchases.
Now we can't do anything about the taxes, but we can most certainly control our spending.
There are lists circulating of anti gun businesses and celebrities. Get a copy and see who the enemies are and act accordingly. Make copies and pass the list to your friends. It's dirty pool, but the other side isn't playing fair either. Besides, this is war.
When you see someone on TV giving gun owners a bad rap, make a note of where you saw it and who sponsored the show.
Take a few minutes and call the businesses and sponsors or send them a letter or an email explaining why you no longer buy their product, watch their movies, or use their parcel service. They need to know or it isn't effective. They need to know. They need your assurance that you will continue to do business elsewhere so long as they continue to support the erosion of your 2nd Amendment rights. Call them on their toll free numbers, then call them again to make sure they got the message. Tell them to shove their 501's. Explain to them how you'd rather watch reruns of Ellen than put another dime in Sly's pocket. Let him and Arnold spout their anti gun rhetoric to empty theaters. They need to know WHY their sales are dropping off..
Don't think this sort of action will be noticed? Just figure out how much you, as an average person, spend on music, entertainment, clothing, pastry, greeting cards, retirement assoc. etc. Did any of the money go to businesses that support gun control? Of course it did. (I was surprised at the number of anti gun businesses to whom I gave my business.) Now total the amount you spent and multiply that figure by the XX million American gun owners and you are talking about money that will get people's attention.
Give the anti's a taste of what we gave to S&W. It didn't take long for us make our displeasure felt there, did it? We can do the same with the rest of the anti gun establishment. Don't do business with establishments which will not permit legally licensed concealed carry on their premises.
We are a very large part of the economy. If they want to turn this into a financial battle, we can whip them, but we have to do it collectively. We have to stop feeding them. I guarantee that will get their attention.
See something on TV you didn't like? (Like Rosie?) Don't bother writing to the station, they don't give a rat's behind what you think. Instead, send an email to the sponsors of the show. Explain to them that you don't appreciate the anti gun content of (name the specific show) and that you would like to respond with a political message of your own and assure him that you will avoid his product so long as he sponsors that type of "entertainment".
Find the time to do this. Make the time to do this. Send an email while you're waiting for a reply to one of your posts here. Do whatever it takes to find the time and do it. Spend ten less minutes on the gun chat site and use the time to make a contact. The free ride is over. We need to be just as big a pain in the a** as the anti's and the tree huggers.
I can't think of a good reason for not being a member of the NRA. Send them some money. Join up if you aren't a member. Renew your membership early. They need the money NOW, not when your five year membership expires. They need it NOW. . . .before the elections. If you're a life member, you probably send them a contribution now and then. If you don't then start doing it. They need the money to fight now more than ever.
I know they haven't done things as some of us would like to see them done, and I wish the in-fighting would stop, but they are all we have. We all owe the NRA for what we still have. Not that other organizations aren't good, but none can match the power and persuasion of the NRA. Remember. . .they may not be perfect, but THEY ARE ALL WE HAVE!
A membership, to me, is insurance for my guns against confiscation. Think of it as insurance or simply paying your dues. If you're too tight to carry your share of the load, then you should feel guilty and rightfully so. If the cost of a membership would truly be a hardship for you, please contact me through my email and we'll see if some of the nice folks at this web site would consider chipping in for your membership. I'll kick in my share.
Some people won't buy guns if they have to fill out a yellow sheet for a dealer because "I don't want to be on anyone's 'list'". They use the same reasoning for not contributing to the NRA or other pro gun organizations. They may have a point but I can't help but wonder if we ALL aren't on some kind of "list". What happens to the form 4473's (Hope that's the right number) when a dealer goes out of business? Does Janet personally see to the forms' destruction or does "F" Troop put them into "storage"?
Do you have a CCW? Ever bought a hunting license? The states all sell mailing lists to businesses, don't they?
Remember a while back when we had to sign for ammo when we bought it? I wonder what happened to those ledgers? Lists? You bet we are on them! I'll bet most people in this forum are on a list of some kind.
Stop shooting the road signs! It's not only extremely dangerous, it makes ALL shooters look like irresponsible fools.
Clean up your mess after you shoot. If you want to shoot old TV's and refrigerators, do it on your own property. Nothing looks worse than an area full of shot up trash and appliances.
Pick up your brass too, especially empty shotshells. Reload them, give them to someone who reloads, or take them home and throw them in the trash. Don't leave them in the field. Nobody wants to pick up your mess and sooner or later, someone will have to. . . . .Usually right after they close the area to shooting.
We need to keep a good image. The media has portrayed us as grinning, unsophisticated, unshaven, inbred hillbillies in ragged flannel shirts and greasy bib overalls whistling the love song from Deliverance through missing teeth while we look for something to maim, kill or destroy with our assault weapons. We need to try to change their image of us.
The money is the big thing. If we all stop doing business with firms that support the organizations which are trying to take away our rights, we can hurt them like you wouldn't believe possible. We can starve them into submission.
I won't mention any names, but how do you think that lying, immoral piece of sh** (of course I don't mean that in a bad way) got elected to a second term? Money!
We have the means if we will only take the time and trouble to use it. Money is power . . . .big power. Collectively, we can make a difference. A BIG difference.
Time to get tough!
Lastly, register to vote and then DO IT! No one can do it for you. The Democrats are counting on our complacency this year just as they have in the past. We have played right into their hands in the past by sitting on our duffs at home when we should be at the polls. We have to surprise them this year and whip them good. Send them back to the rocks they crawled out from under. If that tree-hugging, ozone-sniffing pendejo wins the election, we may as well all move to Britain or Australia.
Too much trouble to drive to the polls? I live in the country. Way out in the country. I drive 20 miles of dirt road, sometimes in mud and snow, to vote. It takes me a hour each way, provided I can keep the truck out of the ditch when it's slippery. I don't see that as an inconvenience at all because I look forward to taking my best shot at the opposition and I feel good after I have. I doubt many of you need to go that far to vote, so VOTE!
This will be our last chance. They have us against the ropes. We all need to come out swinging and hit them HARD! If we don't win this year, we never will.
My humble opinion, thanks for your time.
