Here's hoping I left enough clearance in my trigger stop.

Have never messed with it before. I have an old K-22 that is SCARY accurate and even PRE Bangor Punta. The trigger has always been absolutely the best of any gun I own.

Welllllll.....I had it apart to clean, oil, mess with the rebound spring, add Pachmayrs, etc.....an I get to lookin at the trigger stop. (new guns don't have these)

At one time I was convinced that there was NO movement of the trigger at letoff but that's impossible so I measured it one day. Sumpin like .001-.0015 or so for movement at letoff. IMPOSSIBLE to "push off" the hammer so this must be how Smith used to make em at the factory.

Anyhow, I set up the trigger stop from where it was.....AAAARRRGH...you could actually MOVE the trigger past letoff .....to....2 sheets of newsprint.

WOW! NO perceptible movement after break! At ONE sheet, it would not cock SA for lack of room, but at TWO sheets it cocks. Still no "push off" so think I have enough room.

NOW to go try it.

Wonder if heat may expand the metal and lock it up?

Soon know I guess.

You are correct. Those old "K-22s" can be very accurate. You can just see the trigger stop on this 17-4.

I guess a lot of folks have taken the stop out, because they can come loose. I've never had any trouble with mine, but its only a range gun.

Joe, I doubt it would come loose judging from the way it is retained.

Just ALWAYS use a proper SQUARE screwdriver and you can get those screws ....TIGHT!

So far, so good.
