Don't worry about the scope, we'll put a Leupold M3 on it. This rifle has got to be right on out of the box, everything ready to go; trigger, stock, bedding, finish, accurized, blueprinted, turned, whatever. Caliber must be at least .30, no .223's.

If you don't like to wait too long . . .

You've only got two real choices.

George Gardner of GA Precision
http://www.dennysguns.com/denny/precision.html

or

Jerry Rice of Nor-Cal Precision
http://www.norcalprecision.com

If you pick George, ask for the "ROCK" and he'll know what you're asking for.

If you pick Jerry, ask for the "NightHawk."

Both smith's base rifles start under $1900 and you will NOT be disappointed. Both have very good reps within the LEO circles and with the members of SniperCountry. I personally have 2 rifles from GA Precision, both in .308 and have a 3rd one on the way in 300 WinMag.

Saw a really sharp "used-but not fired" Sako 308 caliber sniper/tactical at a local gun store in Little Rock. This is the same rifle the AF Shooting team uses. Claimed to be a super deal at 2 grand. Had a really nice Springfield scope on top but that wasn't included in the price.

I handled it and everything was really nice, stock fully adjustable, trigger = perfect, fit = perfect, but that price was just tooooooo steep. Guess I'll just have to stay with my heavy barreled Remington with the Leupold 3.5-10 on top.

IBA............... END OF STORY

NOT...............
No flame intended....but opinion, is just that....opinion.
IBA are fine pieces from what I have heard, but give me a smith that does ALL their own work, and uses the same pieces with a solid gold rep, and I will go there.
I got a small problem, with paying double for the same thing.
Just because it's from IBA, or YOURBA........
Another opinion.........fwiw

Spend $700 on a Remington Sendero, and the rest on a real good sniper class and ammo. If you want longer range than a .308 will give you, make in in .300 win mag, (my next purchase).

But, if you just gotta spend the $2,500 that should just about cover the cost of a Stoner SR-25. You will have more rifle for the money, that can do more things than any other rifle for the money? Gotta customize? Send it to Robar for a paint job.

gotta go with the Tubbs 2000 in .308

for a few more bucks
($8250) Windrunner 50bmg

I was just going to say, a Tubb-2000T in .308 would fit the bill nicely. Drop another $700 on a Valdada 10x56 scope, and start looking into precision rifle courses.

Later,
Chris

For the money check out Autauga Rifles and go with a Leupold Vari-X III LR 4.5-14x40 30MM and spend the rest on quality ammo to practice ! Also the Autauga base will get you out to 1K yds and beyond. Doing quite well here in the southeast/south with the LE community and our matches around Ft. Benning.

save a bunch

Order yourself a Tikka Master Sporter 595 in .308, for $750. A set of Optilock Rings for $100. A M3Lr for $700 and a harris bipod for $75. A box of 168grn BTHP match ammo for $16 Put them all together and shoot .5MOA out of the box. Spend the extra $900 on a digital cam to capture the look on the guy next to you who just spent $9000 on his rifle and your outshooting.

my 2 cents

IBA M40 Chandler Sniper is the way to go. No other rifle can come close to being it's equal..not half the price or double the price. There are a lot more to sniper rifles that what they claim to shoot off the bench.
