Here's a thought.......

Perhaps one of the best things we could do is start writing our reps and asking for a constitutional amendment that prohibits attaching unrelated legislation to a specific bill. I see the riders as our greatest threat in the near future; small bits of gun control getting through on bills that have absolutely nothing to do with guns and are generally favorable legislation. I say we need to git rid of the trojan horses.

Don't know if this is possible, but it would be great if legislators were no longer allowed to sneak their agendas through one piece at a time by attaching it to otherwise good bills.

Absolutely. It's a disgusting problem whether you care about gun rights or not. I think a coordinated campaign could kill this with enough sweat.

What?

That's half the fun of The Law. Conservatives have benefited as much from weird add-ons as have Liberals.

Don't cut yourself off at the knees here... These odd sections of bills do as much for you as the next guy...

Unethical is unethical, regardless of whom it benefits. I would like to see a bill like this become law. Unfortunately, some slick "representative" would attach a poisoned pill to it and assure its defeat.

They should certainly pass one that requires all legislators to PERSONALLY read everything they sign.

Ron Paul has proposed such legislation, but of course it didn't get to a vote.

I think it should, and be called the "Ignorence of the laws you pass is no excuse" beill.

That way, the Congress can't pass such crap as the John Warner Defense Authorization Act, and then deny they knew it allowed the President to singularly declare martial law, and personally Federalize the National Guard in a State, to police an area in an individual county of a State, with no input from a Governor of that State.

One of the underlying currents of this election is a growing dissatisfaction with political arrogance.

The Repubs lost because their supporters felt betrayed. They put them in power to reduce government in '94 and they did just the opposite!!!

This election was more about Bush and his betrayal than about putting the Dems back in power.

Pelosi, Schumer et al will think this is a mandate for them. It is not. Big city Dems have all the power in the House and Senate. Many of the new dems are Conservative. They will be pressured to toe the Lib/ Dem line.

It is up to those of us who have one or more of these new Conservative Dems to remind them of their obligation to the people who elected them.

As for Me personally. Mr Casey will hear from me on a regular basis.

Our focus for the next two years should be on Dems who are RKBA supporters. If you have one or more, let them know how you stand and do not let up on them. Tell them right off that they must represent the people who elected them and stick to their principles.

I think I agree with that part. A vote against something may not be a mandate for something.

That said, The present administration interpreted their voter support as a mandate, and I believed it was ... then they squandered it. That's worse. That's betrayal. I think "The Stupid Party" moniker is here to stay. They just earned it anew.

The philosophy of the center 60-80% of Americans will probably always be a mystery to all those professional bureacrats inside the Beltway.

I've already let Bill Nelson know how I feel on a couple issues (he's a re-elected incumbent) and will certainly do so again.

I'm all for elimination of tag-on items to bills (though I don't see it being passed). Much better than the line-item veto. The former would force all legislation to go through the full process naked. The latter lets one person write the law.
