I saw a reference to this verse this morning. Fits well with Clinton/Gore. Still got my fingers crossed for Florida.

1 Sam 8:6 But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us," this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD.
1 Sam 8:7 And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.
1 Sam 8:8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.

...then speaking of the king the people yearned for:

1 Sam 8:17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.
1 Sam 8:18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day."
 
Same here! I'll take that tenth deal any day!

Seriously, there is no good government w/o a moral foundation, and that means 10 commandments and politicians who feel obligation to God and all that. We've seen what amoral sociopaths do to this country.
 
As I understand it, the Egyptian Pharohs took a full fifth of the peoples harvest. Now we have Bush promising to never take more than a THIRD. The @#^%ing PHAROHS only took a fifth!

I saw that same tenth quoted in a history book in my last world history class. What cracked me up is that the book made a tenth seem so outrageously high, so circled it and wrote in, "we should be so lucky." Hopefully the next owner of that book catches on, for every little bit helps.

Psalm 109 comes to mind when thinking of the politicians who accuse me of being an "evil" citizen because I'm a gun owner. Though I have never been a violent person, felon, traitor, or anything but a model citizen.


Psalm 109:
