I was Googling "olympic pistols" because I'm curious about the guns when I stumbled upon this article.
I am enamored with the romantic aspect of formal dueling,,,
I'm sure someone will jump and give me grief for this,,,
But as kids we did this all the time,,,
With dart guns of course.
Back to back,,,
We paced off ten steps,,,
Then on command we turned and fired.
So how would this be scored with modern equipment and technology,,,
I doubt the frock coated mannequins would fly in modern times,,,
But a target that combined accuracy and speed should be okay.
How would the scoring formula go?,,,
I would say time plus accuracy
Would this work?
Distance would be 10 paces/person x two people = 20 paces,,,
Assuming a military pace of 30"/pace,,,
600" @ 12"/foot = 50 feet.
Contestants start with their back to the target with guns pointed up,,,
Turn, fire, record the elapsed time from the "Go" command until bullet impact,,,
Then add some hundreds of a second for each increment of distance from the center of the target.
Deciding how many hundreds of a second and what distance increment would be the challenge.
Or maybe it would simply be a very small (say 2") target,,,
Time to impact would be the sole criteria,,,
A miss would disqualify the shot.
Three shots per match,,,
Or would one shot be more apropos to an actual duel?
Sudden death shootouts (no pun intended) for tied scores.
Oh,,,
Black powder,,,
Single-shot cap and ball,,,
Traditional styled handguns only.
I'm just spit-ballng here but I personally would like to see this match.

No actual duels were fought, alas. Rather, contestants shot at a dummy dressed in a frock coat. Shooting events tend to be rather dull to watch, but they would have a chance with creative thinking like this.
