I just purchased a Herbert Schmidt single action revolver. Can anyone tell me when it was manufactured?...the serial number that i can see is 6D259. It's an inexpensive little gun that i plan on plinking with once in a while. It also has the word AMCO on it. Any information would be great. Thank you.

Herbert Schmidt, according the the book "Pistols of the World" by Hogg and Weeks, was a german firm from Ostheim an der Rhon. It distributed it's guns under a number of names throughout Europe and the U.S. AMCO was one of those names. It produced some double action revolvers and a single action 22. The guns were inexpensively made and not sought after by collectors.

I am not sure of the serial numbers or how to track the date. An internet search may help. If it works well hold on to it and enjoy.
