Henry Rogers Sons and C. rifle

Hi there, I was given an old rifle by my grandfather. He's had it mounted on his wall for the last 40 or 50 years. I took it home and started to clean it up a bit trying to find a maker or some sort of markings. I uncovered the company name, Henry Rogers Sons and C. London on the top of the barrel. I don't know too much about guns and couldn't really find much online about Henry Rogers Sons and C. The only thing I do know is that it's a black powder gun and it looks really old. I'd just like to know a bit about the company to help me date the gun. Any info would be great. Thank you.

The inside of the barrel is rusted. Actually the whole outside was rusted too. Those markings couldn't even be seen until I started cleaning all the rust off of it.

And as for the lockwork? Like I said I don't know much about guns so I'm not sure what you mean by lockwork.

I'm interested in value but more so just information.

Is there a way to pinpoint the exact year in which it was made?

Any idea what the '15' means, or what the second proof mark to the left of the '15' means. looks like the letter 'v' in the same position that the 'p' is in on the right side.

Does the hammer cock back and stay in place? Does the trigger work?
Maybe the 15 is the gauge.
And that V - I don't know much about British proof marks but I see that another V is called a "view mark."
As far as value - you would need better pics for someone on any forum to judge that. It looks like a nice gun, though. I bet it would clean up nicely.

yes the hammer cocks back and stays in place.

and yes the trigger works and when pulled engages the hammer to drop down.

did a bit more cleaning and found some more markings by the proof marks. it's 3 letters: S E S. maybe initials of someone??? can't load a pic of it.

won't let me load some of my other pics too:mad:

Probably an inspector's mark. I have a Belgian rifle, dated 1859, that's covered with inspector's marks and proof marks. Apparently, everytime someone inspected it, they stamped it, and then their boss stamped it and probably their boss, too. I counted about 20 on the lockwork itself. These are some of the marks on the barrel.
As far as your shotgun - is there anyone in your area who can look at it and appraise it or tell you how to restore it? Gotta love those old guns.

well there's a local hunting store. My plan was to go in there and see if they had any contacts for an antique gun dealer or someone that could tell me more.

the wood has some cracks in it too so it's in need of some repair. would like to get it back to original condition.

if anyone here lives in the Vancouver area and knows of a good antique gun guy I would appreciate the contact info so I can do some more research on my shotgun. Thanks in advance.

I just found this post.

How your story ended up ?

I have a similar gun, but twin barrel, that my father gave me and apparently, the story says that it has been found in an attic... I am no gun expert and I was wondering what is the value of that piece...

Mine is in very good shape...
