Henry pump action 22 rimfire

I first noticed these about seven years ago at an NRA convention. Might have been just released. Anyway, I haven't seen them advertised anywhere. Haven't seen them available on line, and haven't heard much about them. The one I looked at was very impressive. The action was smooth, and easy to operate. It rivels the slick action of their lever misfire guns.
Now to the point. In a recent flyer from Cabela's they have them advertised for $419.99 to $459.99. I am assuming the higher price is for the Magnus clambering that I am not interested in. So, if they still have them in stock when I can get up there this week, does that sound like a good price. From what little I've seen on line, and with a MSRP over $500 that sounds like a very good deal.

I bought my henry pump in august 2013 for 449.99 (excluding sales tax), and so, it seems like 419.99 from cabela's is a more than fair price today. I think henry had to move some of its manufacturing facilities because of hurricane damage and production is just now starting to catch up with demand.

Since you handled a henry pump, then you obviously know how they feel when operated. My henry pump is stiff and if you search the threads at rimfirecentral, you will find that to be a common complaint for the pump rifles. I didn't find the action to be prohibitively stiff, and mine has loosened up a bit from working it. Maybe newer production rifles, like you handled, operate more smoothly. In any case, I really like the rifle. It looks great with a 2-7 leupold rimfire on it.

Actually the one I handled was in 2007. Very first production year I think. It was very smooth, but did have some resistance. That was one or the things that really impressed me. I have a bad shoulder, and a rod in my left elbow from injuries from a fall, but I was able to operate the Henry without lowering it from my shoulder like I do with a pump shotgun.

I'm confused if you're looking at a 22lr of magnum. The lr around here sell for $280 to 300 flat. Magnums are about $100 more. I love my Henry. Can't beat them for the money

Are you talking about the H001 .22lr lever action, or the H003T .22lr octagon pump action?

The H001 lever actions have a MRSP of $360 and I can find them locally for about $299. The H003T octagon pump actions have a MSRP of $550 (the same MRSP as a GoldenBoy model). I haven't seen a retail price, locally, on one yet, but I can be sure it doesn't cost as much as the standard round barrel lever action. In fact, I believe the pumps cost a a few dollars more then a GoldenBoy due to their scarcity .

Handled one, cycled it and it immediately "bit" my right thumb web. Like the gun, but would have to learn a slightly different hand position than my natural.

Didn't get to Cabela's until yesterday evening. All sold out on the Henry Pump @ $419. Sold out the day the sale started, and within a few hours. Guess it wasn't meant to be. Did see one on a dealers rack at a gun show I went to first. Said "new in box", but the hang tag with the $425 price on it looked like it had been put on the rack, and taken off for some time. That one might be around for the next show.
Meantime, I spent my disposable $$$ on a couple handguns I've been wanting.

Well, since I just read Cheapshooter's sig line, I had to respond to this thread, as I regret selling my Henry pump.

So, about 10 years ago, I bought an H003, which is the round barrel ("normal"), 18.5" bbl rifle. I remember griping about paying $175 for it, thinking that that was too much.

It fed shorts, longs, and LRs, and was quite accurate.

But I sold it because I didn't care for the painted-on finish (kinda cheesy).

Well, now these are discontinued and you can't even get the round barrel ones, except VERY expensive on the used market if you can find one. And the octogon bbl ones in current production have also gone sky high, insanely expensive. But that's just what's happened to all guns in the last 10 years.

About 7, 8, 9 years ago, there was a spike in all prices that seemed temporary but was permanent. Marlin 336s that could regularly be bought for $150 to $175 used at most at gun shows, were suddenly $350 or more, just in about a 6 month period. But not only did they not go back down, prices kept rising dramatically on almost all gun types for another couple of years after that, and have only remained steady or gone up more since then. And of course, the recession didn't affect this industry at all, except to energize it since it coincided with the Obama scare (recession started in earnest in 08, and Obama elected in 09).

@Dremel: You're starting to sound like my departed mother. Whenever I took her to the supermarket, she would wonder and complain about the prices and, every time, she would announce the price of a loaf of bread when she was a girl. LOL

I think what will impact the most of us, is the price of .22 rimfire ammunition. It wasn't that long ago that I could pick up a brick of bulk 500 or 550, on sale, for 10$. Now I think the new normal will be 40$/500 for premium brands (CCI) and 30 to 35$/ for bulk stuff...even if or after this shortage ends.
