Henry Big Boy .357

Have been doing a lot of research on these guns and are really starting to like them. The fit and finish looks to be perfect and the brass receiver adds a nice look to the gun. If you own one or have shot them tell me what you think of them. How much $$$ are these selling for in your area? This might be my next purchase and would like to know a little more about them. Thanks

I shoot CAS. Henry made carbines are considered the bottom of the heap. Those that get'm soon get rid of'm. They are bulky and unreliable. I have never seen one finish a match without a failure of some sort. If you want a good reliable carbine get a Marlin. If you want a good reliable, easy to work on, very good looking carbine get a Uberti '73 replica.

This is the first I have heard of Henry being "bottom of the heap". The reviews I have read online seem to have nothing but praise for them. I have a Henry .22 and I have not had a single problem through atleast 1500 rounds. Their customer service is outstanding. However I have not shot this particular rifle yet either.

Its all a matter of opinion as to what is good or bad. Just imagine the replies if you had asked about a Rossi lever action 38/357. Personally I would rather have the Henry over the Uberti. For the reason of possible future repair and customer service. My question to the replies that they are junk and bottom of the heap is how many Henry's have had issues at matches? 1,2,10??

I am in my second year of shooting SASS. The Big Boy does not have a huge presence in the game and some people seem to actively dislike them.

It would not be my first choice for a competition rifle but we have a couple of folks in the area who shoot them regularly. They don't seem to have problems with them.

The lack of a loading gate makes loading the gun while lined up shoulder to shoulder at a SASS loading table a little less convenient but it can be done safely.

i have one in 45colt, that i run black powder loads through. i have never had any kind of issue with it.
i can see how the cowboy crowd wouldn't like them, they don't look a thing like the henry repeating rifle you think of when you hear "henry".

I shoot about 10 matches a year. We shoot a lot. Everyone I know who had a 'Big Boy' has gotten rid of it. It's an entry level gun. You buy it and make do with it until you can afford a better gun or until it gets sent in for repair.
If you're not going to shoot much the 'Big Boy' will likely last you awhile, or not.

I LOVE my Henry H006M (.357). I bought it used 2 years ago and have run just shy of 2,000 rounds through it without any problems. No FTF. No FTE. No problems at all. I shoot it more than any other rifle I own (currently 9). So I am not a really serious "rifle guy". More of a shotgun nut.

I use it for woods deer hunting and general plinking fun. I mounted a tang sight on it and can reliably break clays on the berm at 100 yards. Not bad for open sights and old tired eyes.

And yeah....Its a great hunting rifle....(this was before the tang sights)....

You've heard a number of the Cowboy shooters bash these guns.

Time you knew why. Most CAS shooters just plain hate Henry Rifles.

CAS is strict about what rifles you can use in competition.

Henry Repeating Arms used some inside pull and got the Big Boy rifles approved without the usual approval process. A lot of the CAS shooters resent it and bash the Henry Rifles as a result. They can be kind of "cliqueish"

A Henry Rifle is a good reliable and accurate rifle. And it doesn't hurt that they are 100% Made in the USA. And Henry Repeating Arms has the best customer service in the firearms business bar none. They come with a lifetime warranty...whether you buy the gun new or used! If you don't believe me, email the President of the company. He will confirm it in writing.

There is one not so great thing about the Big Boy rifles.....

They are not "handy, lightweight woods carbines. At just under 8.7 lbs they are a bit heavy to carry around the woods all day. But if you hunt from a stand it's not an issue. And I find the extra weight helps me when shooting offhand.

A benefit to this weight is recoil reduction. Even with full house .357 rounds there is almost no recoil. All the fun of a centerfire with hardly more recoil than a rimfire. Just plain fun to shoot!

Buy one! You'll like it! And you will like the company that makes them even better!

Best....2few

Most people that tend to bash a certain rifle or gun on this site generally don't own or have ever shot one. The Henry is a great rifle and for most people, they will never regret getting one. If you want one, get it and be happy. If something does ever go wrong, Henry will bend over backwards to make it right.
