Henry .22lr - Any reason not to get one?

I don't own a .22lr (I know, blasphemy!) and the local Fred Meyer has the basic Henry .22lr lever action for $261.00. Any reason i shouldn't consider purchasing one of these rifles? I plan on only using it for target practice. It looks like fun and I do have some experience shooting lever actions before. It just seems like a decent deal and I've got some Christmas funds to use. Any advice or information would be great. Thanks.

The only reason not to purchase one is if you have a life outside of shooting. If you're married, your wife will only be able to find you at the range, shooting your Henry rifle.

I love mine. It's five years old and has over 12,000 rounds down the pipe. Never a failure. Never a problem.

Don't get it, some Chinese company doesn't have the chance to make it. Henry is 100% American made! I want one for that reason alone.

The Henry

I have a Henry Golden Boy in 17HMR, it is awesome. I have sold Henry's for Dicks and Bass Pro's and all I heard was a Thank-you after they took it to the range .Customer service is awesome the president of the company,Anthony Imperato, taking many of the calls.BTW the action many say is slicker than the Marlin. You can not go wrong by getting one,I know you will enjoy it . Do you get the impression that I like the Henry...!:) Cliff

No reason not to get it. Its a fine rifle.

My only criticism is the factory sights are a bit coarse. Not a problem for most people. The gun still shoots great. I put a scope on mine (easy to do) and it shoots as well or better than any other .22 I have tried.

Thanks everybody! Sounds like it would be a worthwhile investment. Time to see if I have a coupon that might further lower the price...

The .17HMR Golden Boy I have is amazingly accurate. The action on Henrys is as smooth as silk. Nice to see an American company producing a quality gun for an afordable price.

Mine had to go back for a minor repair and I discovered their customer service is excellent.

IMHO the only reason not to get a gun is you don't like it or cant afford it. If you like that gun get it! I am a Marlin (or was until Remington bough them out) but don't let me make up your mind!

Sounds like we're all in agreement. I started out using my Henry mostly for plinking and bullfrogs. When I actually put it on a rest and shot a group with it, I was pleasantly surprised.

They're decent rifles, but $300 and some shopping will probably get you a used Marlin 39a.

Good luck on that one unless it is VERY used.

Henry makes a pretty good product. I was shy of buying for a long time, but have finally purchased one.

My VERY used 39a was built in 1954 and it still shoots VERY small groups. The last Henry I looked at had more potmetal and plastic than I prefer. I have my doubts about whether one will last long anough to get as used as my old Marlin.

They're American made and good for the price, but they're not in the same league.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but there's a very good chance that a Henry rifle that hasn't suffered gross neglect or abuse will be around just as long as your Marlin has. In fact, I have an Ithaca made from similar materials (probably of a lesser quality) that has been around since 1961, which is nearly as long. It's still purring right along and has no trouble keeping up with my Marlins or Winchesters in the accuracy department.

I have 3 a H001 in .22, a Golden Boy H004 and a .22 Magnum H001M and love em all. All are far more accurate then I am and such a kick to shoot.
