Henry .22 lever action

Had always wanted one of these and finally decided to buy it....what fun! The action is incredibly smooth and feeds nicely. The rifle points well, handles great, and is just plain fun to shoot. I imagine it will be a standard addition to any shooting session for years to come.

John, I second that, i'm taking mine out today. nice day here in in upstate NY near 30degrees and sunny

Which one did you get?
The regular round barrel or the octagon barrel?
Golden Boy?
I like a small scope on the round barrel version and I like to use the open sights on the octagon barrel version.
I also like to select some brand of 22 shorts that perform really well and set up some fun & game targets.
I enjoyed shooting my Henry's so much I even thought a Browning BL-22 would make the activity more enjoyable. Boy was I wrong. The Browning never shot anything half as good as the Henrys.

mine has the octogon barrel. just got from the range, colder then i thought it was going to be,and a little breezer. need to make site adjustment, shooting a little left, or maybe i was shivering too much.

I bought the standard, blued, round barrel. Am very impressed by the quality of the stock and fit & finish. The Golden Boy would have been nice, but I'm planning for this to be a ranch rifle and will probably see some rough handling. Tons of fun!

I agree. What I don't like about the Golden Boy is the lack of a grooved receiver for a scope mount. And the ones I've seen and handled looked so nice a guy would hate to get it banged up a bit during travel and shooting.
One of my Henry's is set up with a scope for pinpoint accuracy shooting Eley Sub-Sonic Hollow Points at a local indoor winter range. Others are set up for standard velocity ammo shooting paper silhouette targets with open sights across 4 ranges. One Henry is dialed in specifically with shorts at 25 yards. And this is what the Browning BL-22 could not do. We have a round target made out of a sliced two inch slab of oak. There are fat head nails started in a circular target arrangement similar to a dart board. We aim and try to drive the nails into the oak. Just a fun sort of goofy thing we do. 22's, and especially the Henry brand rifles, are very good for fun shooting. Yes if you want they are good hunters for rabbits, squirrels and more. I'm more of a plinker and I enjoy competing with buddies to knock down small steel targets off rails or stacked pallets. I cannot see myself not having a Henry 22 rifle.

Don't worry about that, the 'brass' is just plating over a sub metal. It's not solid brass.

They are definatly fine little plinkers for the money. I have thousands of rounds thru mine and still love shooting it. Good looking and smooth.

I love my Henry rifle.

I took it out of the safe today, just to look at it - smoothest lever gun action I've ever had the pleasure of using.

I had one and stupidly put it in towards a trade when I was strapped for cash. My thinking was its not too expensive of a gun I can always just get another one which I plan on doing. The one I had was the basic model and I literally used to drive nails with it, very accurate and very smooth action. Henry also has great customer service, the forearm on my rifle was pretty loose so they sent me a brand new one free and the guy even said he would pick me out a nice looking one too which he did. They also sent me a metal barrel band for free to replace the plastic one.

I've always wanted one of those. My eyesight isn't good enough to shoot rifles these days. It's all I can do to shoot pistols at 25 yards. Getting old sucks.

I just ordered from brownells a bullseye peep site for mine, my eyes are having trouble getting focused on both rear and front site at the same time. I need to call henry and see if they will send me and brass plated barrel band.

jsimmons, since you got yours out, how is your front hooded site attached? My front site appears to be fixed and not in a dovetail.

I have the H001T Frontier with the octagon barrel, and the front sight is dovetailed into the barrel, which makes it easy to replace. Check this out (found it in another forum):

-----------------

If you have tried adding a receiver sight (or needed a different front sight) to a Henry Repeating Arms Rimfire round barrel lever action rifle, you may have discovered that the one piece front sight/ramp/barrel band combo leaves very few options for a change.

Skinner Sights will be offering a modification to the STEEL (not the former plastic) front sight/ramp/band combos that will allow mounting the front sight of your choice.

We will dovetail the sight ramp with a standard 3/8" dovetail and Hot Blue the assembly for $25. (Initial Price, if we find that is not cost effective there will be an increase) If you want a Skinner Patridge Front sight installed, we can do that also and ship it back to you assembled.

Send me the Sight/Ramp/Band Assembly and a check for the $25 plus $7 return shipping and allow two weeks turn around time. Be sure to pack it well and include the mounting screw. (For a fitted Skinner Patridge front sight add $20 for Blue and $22 for Brass)

(Front sight hood will still fit with this modification but the distance from the top of a taller front sight to the hood will of course be smaller)

I have honestly *never* seen a H001T that did not have a dovetailed front sight. If it's not dovetailed, how is the sight mounted? Can you post a picture?

jsimmons, my mistake it is dovetailed, never looked at it that close before, plus my eyes aren,t good at close up stuff.
