Finally got to bust some caps this morning. I been shooting nothing but 9mm for the last 9 months and forgot what it was like to bust .45s...
A couple of failure to feeds...was so anxious to shoot that I forgot to feed her some oil...oopsie.
Slide lock didn't lock open a bunch of times. I think it's probably the grip I was using. I shot one handed (both paws) and it locked open both times. I'm using the mags with the extended basepads, and when I push-pull my grip, I think it's pulling the magazine OUT a little because of the backwards pressure, so that may be causing it to lock open? Other theory is that my left thumb is on the slide release pivot pin (what's the name?) or on the slide (Tried both ways), but when shooting the recoil was having my left thumb come down on the slide release. Maybe needs to be broken in, but never had this with my USP40F, but I never shot high-thumbs with my .40.
Accurate as heck, got most of my shots in the 9 and 10 ring at 21 feet...not that great, but I'm not a great shot either, especially in the dark (excuses excuses), so it was okay for me on the first time out with a new gun.
Recoil was more than I thought it would be. Probably because of shooting nothing but 9mm for a while. I didn't get to try rapid firing (more than 1 shot per second) because of range policy, all those suspicious holes in the walls and ceilings I guess....
The action felt a little rough, I could feel it CACHUNK every time I shot. Is this characteristic, or only needs to be broken in and oiled some more?
Still, had a lot of fun, I just have to get my speed up. Used American Eagle 230grs, probably try out some +Ps to try to decide what I want me defensive loads to be in. I will probably end up with going standard pressure.
I had a lot of fun, but I think my technique still sucks, I'm getting a lot of muzzle jump and muzzle rise. The Grock next to me kept raining brass on me, and that was a little distracting. The .45 inspires a lot more confidence than the 9mm as much as I like it. I still shoot better with my Nina (my Beretta), but the USPC is a defensive arm, not a target arm, which my Beretta is set up as.
KABOOM KABOOM KABOOM man, .45s...what a rush.
Senator Perata: BAD...Tax Return: GOOD!!! Welcome Henrietta to the Skunkabilly Armory family....she's a snappy little pup but I think we'll get along...
