Helping a friend with laws?

I have my concelled carry permit. Most of the time I carry my XD-40, or S&W 38. My friend is a calm, cool and collective type. Here is my question, he will often ask me " Are you carring today?". If I am I tell him so. The other day he asked, so instead of awnsering yes or no I asked " Are you?". Sure enough he had a Ruger P-94 on his side holstered in plan view. He then said " I got the right." I don't know how to tell him or convience him this aint the old west, any ideas?

In Virginia, open carry is completely legal. You're not going to teach him anything about the laws, they are on his side.

BTW, whenever someone I know is rude enough to ask me if I'm carrying, I respond by saying, "Maybe" because it's really nobody's business. (Very close friends and family are an exception - To them I say "Yep, Where is it?")

CPL Mike, how are you liking all this rain?:barf: Instead of telling him he's wrong, try telling him of the advantages of carrying concealed. Before I got my CHP, I had to open carry twice and it made some people very nervous (the cops around at the time didn't seem to care). At both times I would not have wanted to leave my gun in the car with the shady characters around. Open carry is a good way of attracting trouble. Concealed carry gives you the advantage of surprise, and what people can't see won't hurt you. Besides, I was reading VA Code yesterday and permit max. fees are going up to $100 next year.
