Ok. Looking for opinions ( all welcome) The Casino Gods were good to me last week to the tune of Lotsssssss. Need help with next rifle purchase. I target shoot only other than Yotes and dogs. I want a accurate rifle

What i have already

223,,,243,,22-250,,308,,6MMBR. Thinking 25-06,,6.5 x 284 or creedmore,, 7mm-08. Open to all other choices

You might be wanting something bigger, but what about rimfire? I think that just about everyone should know the joy of a .17 HMR rifle. Its one of my favorite cartridges. From 100 yards on a calm day, you could kill upwards of 50 prairie dogs with 50 rounds for $12 in ammo. Recoil is so minimal that you can watch the impact through the scope. In any case, I can make single hole groups from 65 yards with my Marlin 917v that i paid $250 for.

Do you want a caliber you do not already have? Or a preference as to the sort of rifle you want, for target shooting i am guessing your preference is a bolt action.

You have a good selection of mid sized cartridges. Thought about a magnum cartridge? 7mm rem mag, .338 lapua, or .300 win mag would be good larger calibers.
 
If I were you, I'd be doing some sort of semi-custom build on a Savage action or, if you want to spend the money, a pure custom job on a high-end BR action, like a Farley.

IIRC, you're a reloader, so no sense in limiting yourself to "normal" cartridges.

If I'm wrong, and you're not, now is the time to make that leap. Be FREE to get what you WANT instead of what the stores have on the ammo shelf!

You obviously have no unmet "need" in the rifle department so I'd go with a specific, fun gun.

If it were me, I'd be seriously looking at a long, heavy barreled .22-50AI. I'd get the barrel from one of the several high end makers. Lijla, Shilen, Douglas, McGowen, in no particular order. (I just bough a McGowen, myself)

Pure fun, that gun would be. Varmints, paper, yotes, if you don't have to carry it far.

I'd go at least 32 inches, probably 36.

That sucker would scream. You could shoot heavy bullets as fast as a normal 250 shoots light bullets and those light bullets.... you could get 5,000+ fps.:eek:

That's what I'd do.

Thanks for all the replys guys. I do appreciate them. Few more things i should have mentioned. I am a fanatic for long range shooting. I have 2 Ruger 10/22's right now to,but never mention them as they are short range rifles. The 17's are sweet and i did enjoy shooting them,but again they are more down the line of short range rifles.

Brian-- That is one sweet rifle for sure,but i think that might be a little bit more than the Casino Gods gave me.:D. I did hit $17,000.00, 10,000 on one spin.
The wife wants to pay off the truck and my Motorcycle first,leaving me with about 1500 left give or take a couple hundred.

Big al hunter-I did go to the sight,Sweet looking rifles. No prices to be seen though.

You might be surprised. If you did it on a Savage action it would EASILY be under $1,500 even with a $500 scope. You're only looking at $400-$500 for the barrel and any Savage 10/11/110/111 type rifle would work just fine(and maybe others, I don't know). Brand-spanking-new, you're talking $300-$400 and you can get some back selling the original barrel.

No smithing work is required, you need a $25 wrench and a new bolt head, also $25. It literally takes about 10 minutes to change the barrel and another 15 or 20 to swap bolt head and change the firing pin length.
 
THE WIFE??;) Just buy what you want,sneak it in the house,put a little dust on it,let the boss lady find it. When she does inquire, say"Thanks Hon, I been looking for that ole thing". Let me know how it goes so I can try it
