Help with Wood Selection for Grips

Looking to have custom grips made for my revolver to take along in the woods hiking/riding etc. There is some tremendously beautiful woods for grips available today. Exotics from all over the world and some good old homegrown USA wood. I could look a beautiful wood pieces for hours - sort of choice overload. What are your thoughts on the following:

1. White Oak - Beautiful grain and highlights. Janka 1360
2. Hard Maple - Wow nice nice wood. Beautiful highlights. Janka 1450
3. Burled Cherry - Fantastic just a awesome wood. This color would be awesome on the black revolver. To me probably the most interesting looking of the group - just so much going on in there. However, Janka 950 (maybe less with the burl). Burl = weak to me.
4. Crotched Walnut - Never been a huge walnut fan but dang this was nice. Another dark wood that would look great on the black revolver. Janka 1010
5. Masur Birch - Great radiating flecks look like sparks. Janka ???

Just wonder how durable the Cherry Burl and the Walnut would be they are a good bit softer than the standard grip made out of Cocobolo wood. No clue on the Masur Birch as far as hardness but dang awesome looking wood. The White Oak and the Hard Maple are pretty hard and I would think would hold up pretty darn good. Any thoughts

Also, do you prefer dark wood on a blue/black revolver (I think I do) or a light wood like the Oak and Maple color?

My preference is for light woods with dark guns and dark woods with light.

By the way, hand guns take rubber or plastic grips, but wooden or ivory stocks.

I doubt there's a close correlation between the hardness of a wood and its resistance to chipping. Scratching? Probably, but I have a hunch chipping is different.

Thanks

I was kind of wondering about the look of the light wood agaist the dark blue/black. Glad to know someone likes that look of light on dark- there is some lovely wood out there.

Got it "stocks"
