Help with Tingle 40 cal

Got my hands on a Tingle 40 cal, 9 in barrel, made in Shelbyville. Shooting at 12 yds with hand support, 1st load 1.3 cc Pyrodex P and a 380 rb with ticking. All over the place, erratic.Took the barrel off to scrub it, and the barrel is in GREAT shape, sharp, clean, shiny. Next, 1.0 cc 380rb and it was better, mostly high. Next .7cc ( yea, only .7cc) with 375rb and double ticking and it started getting respectable. Suggestions, advice ?The weather was nasty today, windy, on and off rain, so this was all I tried. I have some 390 rb on the way.... If I cant get any better than 2in groups at 12 yds, I am going to be upset.

Here's a CC to grain conversion chart so folks can look up the volume of the load in grains:

.7 cc = 10.5 grains
1.0 cc = 15 grains
1.3 cc = 19.5 grains

Pedersoli makes their Mang in Graz and Kuchenreuter target pistols in .38 caliber. The recommended powder charges for both of them are 15 - 30 grains with a .375 ball and a .005 patch which is a tight fitting round ball.

Pedersoli recommends using a tight fitting round ball that's .005 under bore size for many of their other pistols, often with a .010 patch.

Your ball is small for a .40 barrel. You should try .390 and .395 balls and test in the 20 to 35 grain range for accuracy. I believe the .390 at 30 grains is very near where you will end up. I knew Bob Tingle and even though I don't own one (I would like to), I know his pistols and rifles are very accurate. You have a find there and are very lucky. Enjoy.
 
Update. 395 rb arrived, and yes, it makes a big difference. Only shot about 3 rounds, 24gr Pyrodex P, 395 ball and 2 .005 patches. Shoots exactly where you hold.

I'm still kicking myself for not buying the one that came through the LGS last fall for $190 . . . :(
