Help with this High Standard Victor

Waiting for more pics from seller on this gun:

Wondering what you think is a fair price to pay for one that is LNIB.
Made in Hamden, CT 1970. 5.5" bbl. Asking $800

The main thing that bothers me is the stampings.
"The Victor" on the barrel was supposed to be on the early guns, and "Victor" on frame on later ones. This one has both, which I've never seen. Every one I've seen had one OR the other.

I have several Victors, but can't give you an authoritative answer: I'm an accumulator more than a collector. Sorry! I can tell you if it's an original gun rather than one cobbled together from assorted parts, $800 wouldn't be an unusual price for the best American .22 long rifle match pistol ever made.

Let me make two recommendations, please:

  1. Talk with the seller. If you're unable to look over the gun in person, try to get a feel for the person at the other end of a telephone line. My personal rule of thumb is to be cautious. If anything doesn't feel 100% on the up and up, it's time for me to back away.
  2. Make sure there's a reasonable inspection period during which you can return the gun for a full refund. My personal rule of thumb is if I don't get at least three days, I'm not going to buy the gun.
Yes, there have been some other good American .22 match pistols, but even the best Smith & Wesson model 41 trigger I've ever pulled wouldn't have been better than the average Hamden High Standard trigger. Texas "High Standards" aren't even on my list of guns worth considering.

I have already viewed that site, and that's where I read about the stampings.
It was either on barrel OR frame.
That's what makes me suspicious of this gun.

And I would be buying it sight unseen, so I agree, I would have to get a good feel about the seller.
