Simpson's usually has some pretty neat items come through and i live about 45 minutes away from them so i tend to go by sometimes and see their stuff... always an education.

that being said, i have never seen this pistol before and have no idea why it would be worth $125,000. http://www.simpsonltd.com/product_info.php?products_id=47734

can anyone here give me a bit of history on it? i am going to post over at Watherforum as well but thought maybe someone here has some insight.

thanks,

Some of the innovations, mainly the stamped slide, were used in post-war German pistols by H&K, SIG and others, though not by Walther, which generally reverted to traditional forging and machining manufacturing techniques. While I do not have a Volkspistole (alas!) I have good enough pictures to be able to make a guess that had either Germany or the U.S. been able to make a pistol in that way, it could have easily doubled production. It is interesting to compare the stamped construction with the extensive machining required to produce the M1911A1.

As durable as an M1911A1 or a P.38? Probably not, but the life of a pistol in combat seems to have been quite short, so long term durability would not have been a major problem. The U.S. probably lost far fewer pistols for two reasons - we did not have the mass fighting and huge losses the Germans had and we issued fewer pistols, substituting carbines.

My guess would be that it comes with two spare magazines...have you priced magazines lately? :D

Seriously, thank you Bart Noir for the info on the gun.
