Help With Shot Pattern

I've shot about 500 rounds from the Ruger Redhawk .44 mag that I bought new last year. At 25 yards, with one hand, I am consistantly putting 4 of 6 into a five inch circle. I know that is nothing to brag, however, when I use two hands, I consistantly shoot about four inches rignt and two inches down. Is this typical of a right hand shooter? Why an I better one handed? I would apprciate any thoughts.

Welcome to handguns, the point of impact is indeed variable. It sounds like you are able to shoot a reasonable group @ 25 yds. Where that group impact the target depends in part on how the gun recoils. Shooting one handed and then 2 handed will often change the center of your group.

Does the 2-handed group remain about the same size as the one handed group? Don’t confuse accuracy with where the bullets hit the paper. That is the job of adjusting the sights. If you have the sights set to shoot center when shooting one handed and the “group” moves when you change your grip then that is ok up to a point. You can adjust the point of impact with the sights to where you want to normally grip the gun.

Trigger control is also part of where the bullets hit. Do you shoot one-handed single action, but shoot 2 handed double action? Your finger position on the trigger will make a difference in point of impact.

Thnaks for the insight longspurr. The one handed pattern is usually in a five inch circle, the two handed pattern is more horrizontally bunched. A horrizontal band maybe five or six inches wide, but two or three inches high. I rarely shoot DA because my overall accuracy with the .44 drops considerably. Also, I haven't adjusted the sights from factory, yet. Not quite sure how I would adjust them.
