Help with S&W Model 19 Cylinder

Hi all,
My S&W model 19-3 has a chamber bulged in the cylinder.
S&W have advised (10 minutes ago) that they have discontinued this part (go figure).

Can anyone please point me to a business that can supply one? (even if it is 2nd hand but in good condition.

It may be hard to locate one since S&W quit making them.
I tried Numrich like lee n. field suggested and I tried Midway before that and they didn't have them.
I saw one on e-bay on a Google search, but didn't click the link, to see if it was still active.
 
There are several on gunbroker , starting bids of $30 for nickle and $55 for blue . see them on there all the time
 
What you're looking for is a model 19-3 "parts gun" where someone has fouled up the barrel or another part of the frame ...and the gun has a cyclinder that is undamaged...at a reasonable price...and you can verify that the gun is really a model 19-3 model.

But if you're looking to just buy a cyclinder that is loose in someone's parts box ...the question becomes what model did it come out of / will it fit into your gun .../ in theory it should ...but there are differences in the cyclinders in the model 19's over the years...and its going to be hard to know what you're looking at - because they're not marked.

On your side - is the fact that there are a lot of model 19's out there....but there is no guarantee that a cyclinder out of another model 19-3 will fit into your gun without some adjustment - on timing, etc..../ especially if its a cylinder out of a model 19-2 or a 19-4 , etc..../ they might fit - or they might not....
 
Is it possible that the cylinder could be repaired. Possibly a sleeve could be fitted to the bad chamber. Do you have any local gunsmiths that would take a look at it? I noticed that Numrich Arms has Smith Model 66 cylinders in stock. One of them should be compatible with your 19.

Thanks for the replies.

The gunsmith that checked it yesterday is one of the best in the country and perhaps he could repair it if all else fails, but it would be horribly expensive as his labour charges are on par with his 30 years of experience and reputation.

I'll keep looking though the sites you have all recommended.

Are you sure all you need is the cylinder? Check the bottom of the forcing cone for a crack. You may need a barrel too after an overpressure event.

Sad to say, but you may be better off selling yours as a parts gun, or parting it out.
 
How badly do you want to shoot .357? You might be able to get an .38 caliber M&P cylinder and barrel easier than the .357 cylinder.

I thought that I had been to the mountain and saw the elephant, but a bulged cylinder? I really didn't even think that was possible, that the cylinder would crack before it bulged. If you have a bulged cylinder, then apparently I was in error.:o Maybe you should get a second opinion, JMHO

Which would not fit. .38 cylinders would be shorter than .357 cylinders.
 
The .38 barrel isn't going to bridge the extra space in the cylinder window without some special gunsmithing. Unless I'm missing something.
 
So you do the gunsmithing.
It is major surgery.

Put in a .38 cylinder and set the barrel back.

Or do it right and get the Model 13 part, Webley is right.

There's no need for a 2nd opinion when the problem is determined by one of the best gunsmiths in SA with over 30 years of experience.

The whole gun was checked, only problem is the cylinder.

Well, just a suggestion, It really is reassuring and indeed renews my faith in mankind to know there is at least one expert in the world who never makes mistakes. Good luck with your Model 19.
