Hey yall my dad just moved back upstate NY where he lived about 15 years before. Before he moved he had a permit to carry and now would like to carry again.

Now, I BELIEVE without having done much research, that he has to go through the whole rigamerole, from the beggining, but is it possible, that he can somehow renew this same permit? he is living in the same county as before.

thanks for any help, and for not flaming me if this is a stupid question.:o

I would call the judge who isued the permit in the 1st place. The 2nd option is the call the pistol permit office in that county.

Hi, I use to live in New York State in Monroe County. When I moved to Oregon the lady at the county court house in Rochester said to me that if I ever move back to NY and I wanted to get my permit, all I had to do was go to the county court house....any county that I moved to and I think they would contact the original county where the permit was surrendered. and my permit would be in the system. She said that I would not have to go through all the paperwork to get the permit back because I voluntary surrendered it because of moving out of state. I dont know what paperwork would be involved but according to her not the full application process. Because of the time length of your father being out of state, I dont know if that would make any difference or not.

I have a close friend that moved to another state and then moved back 5 years later to another county, he was easily able to get the permit tranfered to the new county, just like if he had never left the state. The permit is supposed to be for life, and as long as he is still alive and a resident it should be good.I suggest calling the local county clerk and and letting them know the situation. As long as he is polite and forthcoming he should have good chance to not have to go through the whole process again.
