H&K P2000SK - $725.00 or

S&W M&P9C - $580.00 w/50.00 rebate

I like both, I like the SA/DA on the H&K + the fit and finish but the smith carries 2 more rounds and is about the same size, just a touch longer. The smith feels just a touch better in my hands but the H&K is a really nice deal. I am stumped here. What would you choose and why??

Bird,

I personally would go with the M&P as I had an issue with the size of the HK as compared to the M&P. I chose the M&P45 and with the smallest backstrap, it is perfect for my hand. The 4” inch barrel on the 45 in the dark earth color was what I wanted visually but ergonomically, the M&P fit my hand better. Granted the M&P’s ergonomics pale in comparison to the Walther P99, (the 9mm I intend to get) for 45’s, the M&P was for me.

I took all my firearms out this past weekend and out of all the handguns my wife enjoyed shooting the M&P45 over all the others and her hands are smaller than mine. Tear down and care of the M&P is awesome for me, of which I haven’t messed with the HK so I couldn’t compare the two. The recoil on my M&P in .45 wasn’t bad at all so I might not even need to get a 9mm for my wife after she said, “I like this one, the four hundred and five, it feels perfect.” So this family is a 405 family:p

Well, I went and laid away a new M&P9C at my gun shop, can't wait to get it out. I chose the M&PC because it was thinner, while being just a smudge longer, and it fit my hand better. I also wanted the slide safety and won't complain about the 2 extra rounds vs the H&K and the free mag offer. It was a tough choice but my shop said the S&W M&P's have been flawless, and they have sold a lot of them. I will give a report on it as soon as I get it. :D

You won't be disappointed. The M&P series is a great line of guns.

I'm actually considering buying a second one soon. I have the .45c and I wouldn't mind having another compact but this time in .357sig.

Mine has been flawless and fun since the day I took it home. I'm sure yours will be great as well. Congrats on the new addition.

The smith feels just a touch better in my hands

For that reason alone I'd go with the Smith if I were you.

Another reason, S&W, having had to deal with them in the past, is better for warranty repairs and such. A real good friend of mine, and someone I trust to give me the straight scoop, has had to deal with H&K over warranty issues back when he was a Firearms Instructor for a federal agency. To say that he wouldn't want to repeat the process would be an understatement.

I like to look at not only the sale, but the "after-sale" support by a company. That makes me lean towards the S&W between your two choices.

If the Smith was $700 and the HK $500, I'd still buy the Smith. Partly for the same reason as Elvis, and partly because I feel that it's the superior of the two.
