1982 - I extracted this date out of the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson".
You can contact Smith & Wesson for a Letter which should tell you when shipped from the factory and where it was shipped to which is generally a specific gun dealer and where the city and state of the ship to address. The letter will also inform you from the S&W records as to the configuration of the revolver to include barrel length, grip types and metal protection like either blued, nickel plated, stainless and etc. The letter cost fifty buck and takes about four to five months to receive.
