Just recently a friend gave me a marlin 1893 in .30 WCF with a serial number B 29803 it has an octagonal barrel of 17 inches, the rifle is in 95% condition (only minor dents in the wood and probably hasn´t shot more than 50 rounds)

is there a website where I can find more data?

keep blasting!

Is this an 1893 or a 93.There are some differences. Also, unless the gun was factory ordered, there were no 17" barreled rifles or carbines. There were 18" and 20" carbines. IIRC the .30WCF was made in the smokesless version only. The barrel should have a marking on it near the breech end stating "Special Smokeless Powder" or "For Black Powder".
For most information on anything Marlin there is a very good reference book by William Brophy titled Marlin Firearms A History or the Guns and the Company That Made Them. An excellent reference book omitting only a good serial number listing.
