"Help with Marlin 336"

I decided to break down my 336 over the weekend. I am just starting to teach myself how to work on the guns I own, especially my cowboy guns. After having good luck with my Rossi 92(total break-down and smoothing the rough spots) I thought I would try the Marlin. However, when I got it back together, the lever would not close & I realized that I had not seated the carrier properly. After taking it apart & back together the right way(so I thought) The lever would close but, very, very stiff. Everything works, (hammer, trigger safety ect...) but, the lever will only open & close with a very heavy hand. It feels like something is blocking it. Any suggestions?

Make sure you have the screws back in place correctly. If you put the longer of the short screws in the bottom, it can make it hard to work it open and closed.

--On the left side of the reciever, check to see if the ejector is still in it's correct place. It's easy for it to move with the bolt out since it sits with it's pin in a hole. If it comes loose while putting bolt back in it can bind the bolt.
--Work the bolt back and check the ejector. Make sure it's still in it's groove and the pin is in the hole.

LOL, I meant that the other way around, the longer screw of the two short ones goes in the bottom of the floorplate. The shorter goes in the back side of the receiver and if you put the longer one in there, it can bind up the lever.
