Help with cleaning

I have recently picked up a Browning X-Bolt in .308 and have been shooting it much more than any previous rifle. I ended up picking up one of the medallions and I am worried about the finish of the gun. So far I have put about 100 rounds through it and I am planning on shooting quite a bit more, but I am worried about screwing up the finish with any solvents or oils that might be left over. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations for solvents or oils?

Also does anyone have any thoughts on the Winchester oil/cleaning wipes? I got some to use as a quick wipe down on my pistol between good cleanings. They clean it up ok, but should I even bother, or just wait until I can scrub it down? I don't plan on using them on my rifle.

Thanks

I use Ballistol (lightly) on all my Brownings. I have a "few", live in humid Florida and the stuff is wonderful. Originally it was made for the German army but is used in all types of mechanical and human applications to this day. I use it on the wood and bluing.

Black powder shops handle it.

Buy one of those winchester oil cloth and I use Gibbs oil perserve, but the mfg has a disclaimer to use caution on weapon's.

Comparrison tests have proved that EEZOX is the best rust preventative available. Try it. You apply it, wait a few minutes and wipe it off. It leaves a dry film that works. With a proper application, rust is prevented until the protection is compromised.

EEZOX also works as a powder solvent, but in my never to be humble opinion there are better products out there for that. Sweets 7.62 comes to mind. The idea that one product out there this does everything well is a myth pushed by advertising departments. Your rifle deserves intelligent care.
