Help with a P220

I've got a sig-sauer P220 and I want another mag for it. I tried Pro-Mag and none of the three magazines I got from them fed reliably. They all had to be modified to make them even work in the first place, and then one of them actually split open.

Mec-Gar has apparently stopped selling them to the public.

I am told that the new factory mag is not as good as the old ones.

Anyone have any recomendations?

I have not heard anything about the new sig mags not being as good as the old ones. However, even if they where you would still be better off buying new mags from the company that made the gun. That way you know they will work great and not split.

So one of your mags really split... I have never heard of that happening before. what did you do? I hope it did not hurt your gun.

Yup, the mouth split on one of the magazines. I stopped using them after that. It jammed the gun up good and tight, but didn't do any damage to it.

It was kind of a suprise. A buddy of mine bought Pro-mag magazines for his Beretta and they work great. Not a jam or a problem. So to get these for my sig which never worked and one even split...

My favorite gunshop has a number of Mec-Gar P220 magazines hanging on the wall. Who told you they're not selling to the public?

I have both the "original" SIG mags, and the MecGar-made SIG mags. MecGar is now making the "factory" SIG mags on contract, and has stopped distribution of their brand. Those still in the pipeline are being sold, but MecGar isn't issuing any more under their own brand. The "original" 220 mags have the "mortise and tenon" seam down the back. Those now coming from MecGar are extruded from tubing, and are seamless. This is a more sturdy construction, and any tales of the new mags not being up to SIG standards are from those who haven't had experience with them. They function equally as well as the earlier mags, and, IMO, are stronger. MecGar was already tooled up for this type of construction, and could produce quality mags for less than SIG themselves. A contract was made, and everybody wins. MecGar gets new production, SIG saves mfg. costs, and we get better mags. Prices will be whatever they will -I mine from Ajax several months ago at $35, and got another pair locally, a month later, for $25 ea.
