help with a Model 10 hammer?

I Just got a Model 10. The hammer sort or wiggles to the left a fraction of an inch and then straightens up as it moves off the sear and travels back as the trigger is pulled all the way back. ( I think that's the thingie that pushes the hammer back? ) and then it straightens up as it prepares to drop free. WHen it does drop, the firing pin goes right through the firing pin hole. There is a tiny , tiny bit of scurring on the bottom of the hammer shaft on the left, only a tiny bit. Is this movement on the way back normal or should I have a gunsmith replace the sear or something? The gun was a police carry and mechanically all things seem crisp. It was made in 71-72. Thanks for any help.

You might have your smith look at it. Brownells sells hammer shims, or you/he can make them, that take the slop out of the hammers. George

Mr. Stringer,

I took it to a gunsmith today and he discoverd that the hammer pivot hole was slightly larger than specs. and he installed a used hammer he had with a smaller hole. This new hammer has a spring loaded nose which keeps it is a downward position always. This new one took the wobble out and alleviated the binding , however slight it was, on the hammer. Is this good or did it really matter? Sometimes I am obsessive about things needlessly. Thanks for your consideration.
