Help with 38 S&W Special CTG

Hello Everyone,
This is my first post! I know there are a few threads about the 38 CTG on here already but I didn't find enough info relating to my firearm in particular.
I was wondering if anyone can give me any info on it? When it was made?
The model number on the inside of the swing arm is 60457
serial number is 428992
it is silver, no adjustable sights in the rear

Any help would be appreciated!

That is an assembly number and I assume you took the SN from the underside of the grip butt.
S&W reused the same serial numbers on different models so I need to figure out what model you have to give a date.
Is it a 5 shot or 6?
Is the chambering 38 S&W or 38 S&W SPL (special)?

bossman got it right, I've got 4 of them little babies and they all say the headline of the op's thread. It's a 38 special and you need to baby it as far as ammo goes, no hot stuff.
 
Asking information on a gun based on the caliber marking is like asking about the make, year and model of a "USE UNLEADED GASOLINE".

I don't know about you, but I wasn't born knowing everything. Asking questions is how I learned. The first time I walked into a motorcycle shop, I didn't know enough to know what questions to ask. I'm glad the salesman I talked to, didn't have your attitude.

It is a daily question on the www, probably because S&W puts it on the barrel so big and bold. I have been tempted to make up something outrageous but figure that most learning these days is via internet. People are buying guns with less background from books and experienced shooters than in my day and they need all the help they can get. It is tough to learn a whole new field one question at a time on the computer.

It is often said that there is no such thing as a stupid question but "What did I just buy?" comes awful close. I guess people have more money to throw around than I did at that stage in my career.

But have you ever seen an assembly number stamped in the crane cut in a Colt .38?

I never have.

I've also never seen an assembly number stamped in the crane cut on any Spanish-made copy.
 
If you look on the right side of the frame, is there a big SW in a circle? If not, does the cylinder turn clockwise or counter-clockwise as seen from the rear?

Does the cylinder unlock by pressing forward on the latch, pulling back on it, or pressing it in?

If you swing out the cylinder, look at the frame just forward of the cylinder, not the crane (part that swings out). What is stamped there, if anything?

Can you post a picture of the handgun here?
