i have a 20 and a 12gauge mossberg that both came with
3 chokes. they say mod, imp, and full on them.
mainly would like to know which one to use for skeet shooting (on average).
granted i know some will ask at what yards-im not sure just looking
for a general answer. also a general answer for when to use other chokes.
thanks!!

Imp isn't a choke designation....its either Improved Cyclinder or Improved Modified...

Again, in general, chokes run, from open to tight ...as:
Cyclinder ( most open )
Skeet
Improved Cyclinder
Modified
Improved Modified
Full ( tightest )
-------------------
so for Skeet I would shoot a Cyclinder or Skeet choke / or an Improved Cyclinder if its all I had. Improved Cyclinder is a little tight in most guns - but it'll work.

For Trap singles - from 16 yard line - I shoot Modified choke.
-----------------
The idea of a choke is to put an effective ( with no holes in it ) pattern onto a target at the kill range...

In Trap - you stand at 16 yd line ...target moves away from you - and it levels out at about 20 yds from the house ( total of 35 yds or so ) ...and a Modified choke will give you that 30" pattern at about 35 yds.

In Skeet we shoot targets from 16 feet to max of 24 yds or so ...and Skeet is the choke most of us shoot.

If it were me I would go skeet shooting and try each one. I use a full with my mossberg because thats all it came with. if your good enough you can vaperize them lol Improved ( the most open) Modified (middle openess ) Full ( most closed of the three) depending on how closed of a choke you are useing depends on how far you can shoot and hit your target. the full will shoot the furthest out of the three you have
