Help...What's a decent .22 pistol ??

Ruger MKII or Ruger 22/45. Just depends on what you feel better with.

New:
Ruger .22/45
Browning Buckmark.-Camper version
CZ75b Kadet conversion-:D <---good enough reason to buy a CZ75b.

Used:

I had the same issue. It came down to the Ruger Mark II, the Browning Buckmark, and the S&W 22S. I found that one was not necessarily better than the others, but just different. I ended up with the S&W only because it had the scope rail, and I got a good deal because that dealer also had another gun in stock that I wanted. I think I paid 250 for the Smith.

Nice gun. I particularly like the ease of takedown and the magazine release that is located in front of the grip rather than under it. I put a ProPoint scope on it, and it shoots great.

Every time one of these .22 plinker topics comes up, I usually type a long winded eval of what I listed above. For some reason it jinxes the board somehow and it's usually that day that disappears into the bit bucket :D

The short of it:

.22/45 -Nothing short of a dump truck with a sight. Impossible to shoot it too much. Eats anything you feed it. If it won't, you got a bad one. Dump it and get another.

Buckmark Camper-Great gun, just don't take the right side grip off and buy plenty of recoil spring retaining clips. If you want prettier, or variation get a micro or a plus. Same action, different look. Same feel, but more $$.

CZ75B- Kadet conversion. Outstanding value for an all steel machined upper assembly. Accuracy is hampered only by the trigger of the CZ75b. Big plus is that for a little over $500 you get a fine defensive weapon and a plinker in one package.

High Standard- If you've never shot an icicle breaking crisp, sub 1 1/2 pound trigger, you're missing out on an experience of a lifetime. Mine's only the spin of the combo lock on the safe away :D. It WILL make you shoot better than you are. My old Sport King is almost as tough as my .22/45. Eats even more of a variety than the .22/45. Drawback-Harder to find than an honest Democratic candidate. Good news-(for me anyhow) My father in law has one exactly like mine :) except he never fired his.

Bottom line:
Tough to find a really bad .22 Semi Auto. About the only ones I've seen nothing good said about are Jennings and the Colt Cadet.

Branrot...

My local shop has a S & Wussy model 22a(I think) with a Pro Point already on it(It's the model that you can adjust the brightness of the dot but not the size) they're asking $324.00...Is this too much ?? I do kinda like the rail on top...They also have a couple of Shot Show Special Buckmarks...Green or Red anodized frame complete with a special Browning knife for $249.00...

Get the Ruger MK II-----the Buckmark is an inferior design with an aluminum piece screwed on--holding it all together----Never had the Smith but the last one I looked at in the store seemed pretty crappy. I like S&W and Browning and have other guns by them---but for .22's the Ruger is the only way to go.

.22 pistol

I ended up with a S&W 22a. The scope rail sold me, and the accuracy and reliability has been great. Eats everything, and I also mounted a Tasco red dot. Very happy with this pistol. Paid 179.00 during a sale. Not a real good pic, sorry.

The Mark II's feel better in my hand than the 22/45----all steel gives it a better hefty feel. Although the 22/45 is lighter---I still like the MKII better. My stainless 4' standard model with fixed sights will outshoot my buddy's 6 7/8 target model. I'm also a better shot than him--so that might be part of it(sorry--had to brag a little bit). Both the Rugers are good--its up to you what feels best----and the features you want-such as: mag releases--sights--and barrel length. Go to a shop that has many different models and check them all out---also go to the Ruger site for all the features they offer. Don't let the suggested retail prices scare you off----they are always a lot less than that in the store.

Another vote for the Ruger Mk2. Get the 5.5 Inch bull barrel. Get it in stainless. Its awfully pretty, and it shoots.

Ever consider a 22 revolver? Like a Ruger suigle six 22 mag/22lr convertable? Awfully neat and fun to shoot.
