Help - Weatherby/Leupold mount problems

I have installed a new set of Leupold dual mounts and rings on my new Weatherby 257 along with a new Nikon 4-14. I initially used the high ring mounts....couldn't adjust the scope to the center when bore sighting...the bullet point was about ten inches low at 25 yards with the scope dead center on the target....

I then tried a medium height set of rings with the same problem, a low bullet location even with the scope adjusted all of the way to one end. I then went to the low mounts with the same results at 25 yards. It appears that the rear ring/mount either needs to be elevated, or the front ring/mount lowered. This doesn't seem possible with the Leupold mounts.

Any suggestions? I am at my wits end at this point.

I'm along for the ride .. w/ similar trouble

Elker_43,

Just bought a Weatherby SVM and will be mounting a Leupold Var X III LR MilDot 3.5-10x40 on it. I had/have Leupold 2 piece LOW base and when the shop tried to mount my scope the front of it would not sit down all the way in the lower half of the Leupold 30mm ring.

So I call Leupold and they suggest I get the MED base. It arrives in a few days and I will see if that helps.

So my title to my reply, " I'm alaong for the ride" is to see if the other responders to your post can answer a similar question for me (and maybe others).

Called Leupold - Got my answer!

Indy Steve,
I too called Leupold, and they tell me that the newer Weatherby Mk V rifles have been changed so that you will need to either purchase the "new" Weatherby Leupold bases or use a Remington 700 Leupold base on the back and a Winchester Model 70 Leupold base on the front. They indicate this in their newest catalog, but some (many) of the dealers DO NOT read the catalog notes!!!!

I guess I'll need to go back to the place where I purchased the bases and tactfully give them a piece of my mind!

Thanks for your post.
