I would appreciate any informacion you could give on a revolver. It is top-break five round double action, blue finished, exposed hammer,85-90% external condition(the gun is in excelent shape mechanically),the sights are fixed groove rear and fixed blade front ,3 inch barrel longer cal .32 .I see in the top of the barrel the markins "Smith….", "pat….." (for the long time some words had ben erased) ,also two very small proof marks like Maltese Cross .The grips are black hard rubber without S&W logo(maybe they were changed)and on the bottom are the numbers 18919.The gun has ben found in southamerica, also the original bullets and holster.
Thanks in advance for any information you may have to help identify this firearm.
(Sorry for the diagram, but my zoom camera is too weak.) :)

OK. Disclaimer. I love Smiths and I collect them but I'm a "1930's and forward" kind of guy! I'm looking at my Smith book for the following information but it does seem to match up.

It looks to me like a S&W .32 Double Action. (Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, page 53 of Suprica and Nahas, 2nd Ed) Based on the serial number range, it would be a 2nd Model. They made 22,142 of them from 1880-1882. The book says one in Ex. condition is worth $275. The grips are _supposed_ to have the S&W logo on them.

It looks like a 2nd model to my eyes. 32 S&W is the chambering. The grips are definitely not original. Those ARE Maltese crosses. The top rib should read, SMITH&WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS USA PAT'D JAN 24 65 JULY 11 65 AUG 4 69 REISSUE JULY 25 73 MAY 11 80 Jan 3 82 and the Maltese crosses are in front of and behind the lettering. Not all of the above might be on your particular model. The principal area to be concerned with is the firing pin. There should be a "safety" notch that retracts the firing pin. The firing pin should not protrude out of the frame at all. The airgap in the frame and the cylinder/barrel gap are of some concern too. If yours is tight enough and the firing pin doesn't stick out, you could shoot it with current 32 S&W (short) ammunition.
