Help to choose between Glock 21 and H&K USP .45 STAINLESS???

Dear all,
First og all I don't want to start any flame here (Glock fanatics against H&K fanataics).
My question is:
I am trying to figure out what to buy?
Glock 21, new in a box, 2x13 rounds magazines for 2050,00 DM or H&K USP .45 STAINLESS, new in a box, 2x12 rounds magazines for 1850 DM.
I am interested for a gun with greater durability, precision, possibility to add few rounds extension to the standard magazines (here we don't have limitation on number of bulets in magazine for civilians) etc. Please help me to choose.
Thanks.

G21 vs. HK USP

Gota,

I own a G21 and have fired the HK USP quite extensively so here goes.

Customer Service - Glock is far better than HK will ever be.
Maintenance - Glock
Parts availibility/price - Glock (at least here)
After market parts/add ons - Glock
Accuracy - Both are very accurate but I feel my Glock has the edge.
Reliability - Glock
Feel - Glock
Looks - Both are fine.
Holster availibility - Glock by far.

Either one...

...will serve you fine. I'd make your choice based on how important you feel a safety lever is and how well the individual guns fit your hand. Interesting to note the price differences; here in the states, a Glock 21 goes for US$550 and a USP-45 Stainless for US$750. (HK has a very "high-dollar" image amongst US shooters)

JMC,

Since he's in Macedonia, I don't think our experiences with HK USA in Sterling, VA or Glock USA in Smyrna, GA really apply... ;)

I wanted a large caliber poly-framed gun about 2 years ago.Glock was out of the question because I thought it was a gang-banger gun and I thought they were junk.I bought an HK.One day I shot my friends G21 and was instantly hooked.I could not live without one.It pointed better than the HK,had a better trigger(I hate HK triggers),and was more accurate.I went out the next day and traded my HK for the G21.Best move I ever made.I like it better than my Wilson KZ.It has become my favorite weapon.Although it is a bit large to carry.

Gota,

If I were you I'd get the one that feels the best to you. Have you fired these weapons, and if so, which did you shoot the best?

You really can't go wrong between the two.

They will both be extremely durable. In my experience, if you want accuracy, the H&K wins.

H&K service is much maligned, but I've had very good experiences wit them, as have friends. I've also read here on this board that european service is very good.

As far a as looks are concerned, a stainless H&K against a GLOCK? No contest. . . H&K!

Shake,I have to disagree. While the Glock looks utilitarian(cool),the stainless HK looks like a pimp-gun.Just my opinion. No disrespect to people who like 2 tones.

I recommend you to buy the gun which fits your hand most. Some people find the Glock grip angle unnatural and have problems with the safe action trigger. Some people find the USP control lever uncomfortable and complain about the sharpness of the checkering on the grip.

I bought the USP. Its more accurate out-of-box than the Glock when it comes to 25m bullseye accuracy. The USP action and control lever arrengement can be converted to many variants - you can have it your way, not just one way. You get metal guide rod, metal sight, metal mags, not plastic. Reliability is top class.

On the other hand there is no factory magazine extension for the .45 HK. You can use the .40 or 9mm USPs with the longer, expert mags...

goat,

Appearance is subjective. We all have our own.

Generally, the USP isn't regarded as a "good-looking" gun. They've grown on me though to the point that I think they are pretty tough looking.

to each his/her own.

What you will find with both is that they are two of the "softest" recoiling full size .45's available.

My G21 is a dream to shoot with any load.

Tamara: HK customer service stinks no matter where in the world you are located. ;) They work very hard at making it that way.

The Glock is far easier to detail strip than the HK for those who are not mechanically inclined. The HK is over engineered as most German "things" are.

the stainless HK looks like a pimp-gun

Yup...sure does! :D

I feel like the HK is a better gun. I like Glocks, but my G21 jammed 4 times in one IDPA match. I had a USPFS 45 and its everything in one gun. Its a 1911, its a Glock, Its a Sig......you can configure it however you want too. They are about neck to neck, so get the one that fits you best.

They are both fine pistols which will serve you well.

That said, they aren't the same. Different looks, eronomics, controls, options, feel, etc.

Choose which one best suits you.

I owned a stainless .45 USP. It was accurate, rugged, and reliable. Just as advertised. I ulimately parted with because I determined it was slightly too large for my hand. (Barely... But enough to make me part with it.) A friend of mine bought it and raves about it. I replaced it with a Spriongfield Loaded Gov't, but that's neither here nor there.

If I had decided on the compact version I imagine I'd still have it. The HK compacts feel "just right" to me, for what it is worth.

It's a personal thing

I have a HK Tactical and a Glock 21(and a 30). I recently bought a HK Match in Stainless.

In regards to accuracy, I think I(personally) shoot the HK a little tighter than my Glocks. The fit and finish is much better on the HK. Both are tough and rugged. But if I had to choose one, it would be the GLock, only because of the millions that are out there and the availability of spares etc....

I like both equally well, but my favorite is still my HK PSP, that little gun rocks...

If the different fire control systems aren't an issue for you, and the ergonomics are the same for you, then get the HK USP and save yourself 200DM.

The best solution would be to get both.:D

I answered a similar inquiry on Glocktalk so forgive me if this is a repeat.

I have two HK USPs and two glocks. Apart from hand fit and feel (which is subjective) the big functional difference comes down to trigger and rapid fire.

Most shooters with a little experience can pick up an HK .45 and shoot it very accurately, single-action. After one month I was able to put 4 or 5 consecutive magazines in one 3cm hole at 8m offhand. Recoil is mild for a .45. The sights are nice and big and they almost alway come spot on from the factory.

When you start to get into rapid fire sport shooting, the Glock shines. The trigger reset on an HK USP is long and sloppy. The Hk has a high bore axis resulting in more muzzle flip. And the DA on the HK is really bad. Lots of Creep and horrible stacking. I'm told a Wolf 10lb hammer spring can reduce this.

Having said all that, I'd get the HK, because I find the Glock trigger really, really hard to master. You'll go through thousands of rounds trying to fire the same tight groups that the HK does effortlessly. Mind you, the pistol has the mechanical accuracy... it's just really hard to achieve because of the trigger pull. It's like having a fast car, but you have to work the throttle with your hand--it just makes things so much harder. I'd only get the Glock if you have no problems with mushy, sproingy triggers and you plan to do gun games.

Glockers defend their guns religiously because it really is a fine firearm in most respects, and is unique in some. But I've seen the real world difference in how novices and intermediates shoot with the thing. 9 out of 10 shoots will shoot better with the HK in slowfire. And I'd say 2/3 of very experienced shooters still have trouble transitioning to the Glock initially.

But if you plan to get into competition, the Glock is probably the better bet, just because of bore axis and short trigger reset.

Yo

Both are great firearms. The Glock grip angle doesn't really " work" for me, hence the reason I don't own one.

There isn't anything functionally wrong with either. Go with the one that " feels " the best to you-and the one you like the operating system of better.

Me=big fan of usps. i dont like glock. Glocks are really good, but they angle way to much for me, and they are ugley!

JMC, just out of curiousity, have you ever dealt with HK customer service? If so, what are the specifics?

You seem to have nothing good to say about HK or its products. Do you own any HKs?

Of the guns I've owned, only my G21 has kaboomed on me. Of the guns I own, my USPs have fired the most rounds and have needed the least attention. I really liked my 21, but after it blew up, I couldn't trust it anymore. Like I said in another thread, you have to have confidence in your firearm to be effective w/ it and I'm just not confident w/ my Glock. I prefer HKs!
Glocks work for alot of people, just not me :)
Here's another vote for the stainless USP 45!

I was just about to mention that.

I suspect it's the unsupported chamber of the glock that makes it susceptible to kabooms. Gota, if you plan on using 'major' loads, then HK is the way to go. If you like a 1911-style operation, only HK that could give you that. Both barrels are polygonal, so there's no issue there.
possibility to add few rounds extension to the standard magazines
I don't think this could be done in HK. with glocks, i believe i've chanced upon a 20 rnd magazine, but for the G-18.

Be safe!

New_comer;)
