Help- Ruger .44Mag Carbine jams!

I purchased a used Ruger 44 Carbine, and it jams all the time.
Where or what should I be looking at to fix this situation?

The round fails to chamber correctly, and the nose of the bullet gets stuck just before being chambert into the barrell.
Was this a comon thing with these weapons?
Did I buy junk?

No, you didn't buy junk, but it sounds like that rifle may be in need of a good cleaning. If that doesn't work, a good gunsmith might help. Better, send it on to Ruger.
