Help please…. Stoeger or Kahn

I am wanting to get in to sporting clays but for the first time I’m not going to jump in to an idea with both feet ($2000 shotgun) I would like to test the waters ($500-600 gun)

I have done research and found 2 O/U12 gauge with ported barrels.

Stoeger Competition ~ 30” with adjustable comb ~ $450.00
Mossberg Onyx (Kahn) ~ 28” ~ $550.00

Both are chrome lined, selective triggers, and ported barrels.

The Kahn “feels” better to me because it’s a little narrower then the Stoeger, but I have read a lot about the firering pins breaking on them and they are $100 more.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

The most important thing in a shotgun is that it fits you. If it doesn't you won't be very accurate. There are other budget o/u shotguns out there like the spartans (bakail), CZs (huglo), or Franchi so keep your eyes open. Find one that fits you. All of these are pretty good guns that will last you many years.

BOth are awesome guns, and as has been said Fit counts more than price. If you are a good customer, you should ask the shop to take out a variety of guns to the range and see what fits best. YOu will be surprised at the difference it makes.

"Both are awesome guns"

wow, hate to see how excited you get when you see a gun that's actually NICE. what say you about a browning or beretta O/U? do you need a napkin to clean up?

on a serious note, these guns are far from awesome, but both are good serviceable shotguns that shoudl give you quite a bit of good shooting. you do have to realize though you are spending 1/4-1/2 the money you would spend on a quality gun. Neither stoeger or khan are fooling anyone, these are 500 dollar guns, with 500 dollar quality/function/looks.

my vote would be to save up for the khan, wait a few extra weeks/months until you have surpassed that by about 300 dollars and buy a nice used browning citori. this will be 10x the gun of the choices you listed, and will be around when it's time to pass it on down to the kids/grandkids. JMO.

why do you want ported barrells? I know a lot of guys shoot them but your going to find it at least 50/50 on if they are needed or not.

I would get a used 1100, or a used beretta 303 and start from there.

Also check out the new savage o/u. they look alot like my rizzini

Can't say enough about Stoeger. Been bird hunting and clay shooting with mine for 5 years now.
Little heavier and "chunkier" than higher priced guns, but its an excellent shooter.
