I have a 1911 Compact Stainless Steel. I see that it needs a good cleaning as the luster is fading. I read that SS will rust and i would like to eliminate that from happening.

Is there any way to keep it from rusting without leaving the gun oily?
also is there a way to polish SS to keep the shine on it?

thank you

the wax will clean it and protect it from rust as well as bring back the shine?

wow thats cool :) i was worried that i would have to get it dipped at a Smith shop. I was talking to a guy who says he had his stainless parts (slide frame and what not) dipped to dissolve any starter rust and old powder fowling and grease built up over the years.

It cost him

Strip down parts 30.00
Dip parts 25.00
Re-assembly 30.00
polish/lube 10.00
---------
95.00

i was going to pull it apart today and give it a deep cleaning and pick up some products at my LGS. I was online and some people said mothers polish so i ave an autozone a few miles away i may stop there and grab some.

Flitz

Flitz sells a kit that contains 3 items - gun cleaner, flitz S.S. polish, and gun wax.
All 3 work great. You will end up with a clean and very shiny SS gun.
The gun wax is dry and fights corrosion.

I found my kit at House of Knifes. Online???
